 on

The MMORPG genre is one that has seen a resurgence as of late with the popularity of titles such as World of Warcraft: Dragonflight and Final Fantasy XIV. The genre has been booming recently. These are worlds to get lost in and find companions to fight alongside you. That being said, there are many different titles that are on the rise in the genre. So with that being said, here are our picks for the 5 Biggest Upcoming MMORPGs on PC (2023).

5. Ark 2

Starting off this list, we have a sequel to the highly successful Ark: Survival Evolved. This is a game that will allow players to tame and control dinosaurs. They will be able to build their own settlements and engage in combat with one another. This will definitely lead to some interesting choices of sides among the community. The gameplay aspect of Ark: Survival Evolved was considered by many to be its weakest aspect, a flaw that the sequel seeks to rectify.

The combat for Ark 2 appears to be much smoother. It seems to be benefitting from both an engine upgrade and a fundamental overhaul of the systems. This is great for potential players, as many of the clunky mechanics from the first game appear to have been removed. First of all, this shows the developer's commitment to improving the player experience. Secondly, the way in which the world is shaping up to play a part in the game is promising. So if you are looking for MMORPGs to play on PC in 2023, definitely check out Ark 2 when it releases later this year.

4. ArcheAge 2

First of all, ArcheAge 2 has incredibly large shoes to fill. Additionally, the game will have to improve on the systems of the first game. These include social systems, which are at the heart of what made the first ArcheAge title so successful. This is undoubtedly possible, but the developers will have to keep their ear to the ground regarding the game's community in order to make sure that they accomplish this properly. The game also appears to be extremely ambitious regarding what platforms it will be on.

ArcheAge 2 appears to be releasing on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. This is no doubt due to the graphical power needed to run this behemoth of a game. The combat for the game is also striking as there is an emphasis made on action combat, with the ability to create entire towns with their own unique economies and other elements. This game's scope and scale appear to be massive. So if you are looking for an MMORPG that stands out among other MMORPGs, definitely give ArcheAge 2 a look when it releases, hopefully in 2023.

3. Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen

Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen is a title that began as a rather humble project. It has since then gone on to accumulate a ton of funds and fans in order to make the game a reality. The game, which appears to be adopting a more old-school approach toward its MMORPG mechanics, is wonderful. While the game is still very much in development, it hopes to stand out among other MMORPGs, and 2023 seems to be a great year for the PC game.

The game hopes to bring back the social focus of the MMORPG genre. Whether it will, in fact, do this remains to be seen. However, we can hope for the best as this game edges ever closer to a release. With a healthy dose of challenge, it is even encouraged by the developers of the game to bring friends along for the ride. All in all, this title is definitely one that MMORPG fans will want to keep their eyes on in 2023. So if players are looking for a social MMORPG, then the way may be shorter than they think.

2. Blue ProtocolBlue Protocol

Blue Protocol is one of the most anticipated upcoming MMORPGs to release on PC sometime in 2023. The upcoming game will feature five classes for the players to choose from. This gives each class its own distinct flavor and identity. The classes are as follows, and each has its own niche abilities suited to different situations the player may find themselves in. First of all, we have the Blade Warden. As their name would imply, these are warriors with tank-like abilities to help shield their allies from harm. It is hoped that this game will place its own emphasis on the class-based mechanics put forth by Blue Protocol.

Next, we have the Keen Strider, and while there is little information on this class at the moment, other than their starting weapon, which appears to be a bow. The other classes in the game each seem to offer their own playstyles for players to enjoy. SO regardless of how you enjoy playing MMORPGs, you should definitely check out Blue Protocol when it releases. The game is shaping up to be one of the best-looking and most balanced anime-inspired MMORPGs to date.

1. Ashes of Creation

Perhaps the most hyped entry on our list we have Ashes of Creation. Funded by a private company, it is hoped that this commitment to doing everything in-house will boost the quality of the game substantially. The story of how this game came to be is rather interesting, as it is essentially a dream game from the developer who enjoyed games such as the Lineage series. The developers have been extremely transparent about the game's creation, which has led to clamoring fan support.

The tenets that advise the design of this game hope to shape its development into something not only substantial but genre-changing. The game is currently being developed for the relatively new engine, Unreal Engine 5. This has granted the game a graphical fidelity that few other MMORPGs can match. This is due to the fact that Ashes of Creation is one of the most beautiful MMORPGs on the market. With a distinct art style and direction, it is hoped that this game will stand out above its competition for a number of reasons. While this remains to be seen, it would be fantastic if the game breathed life into the MMORPG genre.
