Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Has a Few More “Surprises” In Store

Ubisoft has announced a slew of updates for Assassin's Creed Valhalla, with a longboat full of DLC and additional features expected to arrive this summer. This stems from a quarterly earnings call, in which the developer touched base on the future of the game, lighting the way for fresh expansions and never-before-seen content. But to put it short — it's all flowing out over the coming weeks, with the Siege of Paris expected to roll out this season.

“We will continue to deliver powerful Assassin’s Creed content over the coming months and years, starting with an ambitious post-launch plan for Valhalla,” Ubisoft chief financial officer Frédérick Duguet confirmed during the first earnings call of the year. “[This includes] the Siege of Paris expansion coming this summer, the release of the Discovery Tour Viking Age, and a very ambitious and surprising second year of content for the first time in the franchise’s history.”

But wait — there's more…

“We are pushing the live service model to a level that allows Valhalla to be the best performer ever for the franchise to date, and we will be coming with exciting and new news and surprising [announcements], including for the second year of content.”

With Ubisoft devoting a great deal of time to the Assassin franchise, it does raise the question of whether or not a sequel will be unveiled before the year's out. Of course, rumours have already surfaced, with the Third Crusade being put forward as the next period to receive the thumbs up. Though sadly, with little detail to shed on the claim, fans will have to take that one with a slight grain of salt — at least until Ubisoft decide to lift the veil.

Would the Third Crusade period go down well with fans of the franchise?

We asked — they provided. And then some.

In other news, Valhalla will be introducing one-handed swords in the next Title Update, expected to go live over the coming weeks. After fans nudged the developer one too many times over the idea, the studio has finally decided to act on it, with a few additional quirks bundling alongside it. In a nutshell, that means a new range of weapons will land in Valhalla real soon, with plenty more to follow before 2022.

“We add in community requested tweaks and features too,” Ubisoft Montreal senior community developer Karen Lee said. “For instance, we’ll be adding one-handed swords in the coming weeks.”
