Withering Realms: Everything We Know
What if you woke up one day and realized you were no longer alive? That’s exactly what happens to Clover, a 9-year-old girl who finds herself alone in Withering Realms. The world around her isn’t normal. The dead walk, spirits whisper, and eerie creatures roam the land. To make things worse, she’s trapped in this nightmare as a ghost. And her only hope is a strange doll guardian made of wood, metal, and human remains.
But why is Clover here? What really happened? And what dark secrets are hidden in the town of Penwyll? Withering Realms is shaping up to be a game full of mystery, horror, and spine-chilling discoveries. We have gathered all the info you need about Withering Realms. Here’s everything we know so far!
What is Withering Realms?

So, Withering Realms is what the devs refer to as “an action RPG with mystery and puzzle elements, played primarily from a 3/4 top-down perspective.” Essentially, that means you’ll be wandering around, fighting, and trying to solve some mysteries in this creepy world full of secrets. You’ll be traveling through different locations, discovering secret routes, and encountering some quite strange characters. When you advance, the world sort of opens up more, revealing new places and dangers.
Despite having the same dark and spooky atmosphere, Withering Realms is not a Withering Rooms sequel. It’s a whole new story that is independent, but set in the same universe. You don’t have to have a clue about Withering Rooms in order to jump into this game. It’s all new, so old fans and newbies alike can get in. The game sets you in a dark, immersive world that’s full of horror and mystery. You’ll be hanging out around the town of Penwyll and the surrounding areas, where you get to experience great balance of storytelling and hardcore action.
Story

The dev hasn’t shared much about the story, but from what we know, things look real dark. It’s been ten years since a massive occult event stopped the Great War. But it didn’t bring peace. It twisted the world into something unrecognizable. The dead don’t stay buried. Spirits drift through the ruins. Some people even wield strange, unnatural powers.
Somewhere near the heart of it all, a girl named Clover wakes up in a crumbling mansion. She’s alone. No family. No friends. Just silence. Then comes the worst part — she isn’t alive. She’s a ghost. And the only thing by her side? A strange doll made from wood, metal, and actual human remains. Together, they set out into the decaying town of Penwyll, searching for a way to bring Clover back to life. But this world isn’t kind. The deeper they go, the more horrors they’ll find.
Gameplay

From the information available so far and the gameplay trailer, here’s what we can expect from the gameplay. Withering Realms is a horror action RPG that focuses on exploration, combat, and uncovering dark secrets. Players take on the role of Clover, a young ghost, as she and her doll guardian navigate the eerie town of Penwyll and its surrounding graveyards, tombs, and abandoned estates.
Exploration seems to be a crucial part of the game. Players may descend into tombs, caves, and decaying buildings to search for treasures, upgrade materials, and magical artifacts. The world map is expected to expand over time, unlocking new areas after overcoming powerful perimeter guardians. Some locations may also change at night, introducing new creatures and hidden secrets for those brave enough to return.
Combat will rely on the Doll Guardian, which serves as Clover’s protector. Players should be able to equip different weapons and machines to its missing right arm, including a Pivoting Greatsword, Chain Rock, Machine Gun, and Flamethrower. That said, the game won’t be a roguelike, though some dungeons may have randomized layouts for variety, while items and story progress should remain intact after death. Additionally, Clover will be able to use items or cast spells even while the Doll is mid-attack.
Beyond fighting, players can expect to meet allies like Althea, a skilled investigator who can interrogate and gather information to uncover Penwyll’s hidden truths. The town itself is expected to have shops and NPCs, likely offering supplies, upgrades, and side quests.
Development

Withering Realms is being developed by a solo dev, Moonless Formless, out of Seattle. It’ll hit Early Access first, and you’ll be able to play the full story from day one. More side quests and a mode will be added before the full launch. The dev’s also planning to adjust game systems based on player feedback. Overall, you can expect plenty of updates along the way.
