Lord of the Rings Mobile Game

Electronic Arts announced on Monday that The Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-Earth is the publisher's next large licensed product for mobile devices.

The company revealed the news as part of a press release via Business Wire introducing a new cooperation with Middle-Earth Enterprises, a division of The Saul Zaentz Company. EA will develop The Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-Earth with Capital Games as the primary developer, as a result of the partnership.

Capital Games previously developed Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes, a mobile RPG with card-based items and action. Heroes of Middle-Earth is likely to be similar. However, we'll have to wait and see how Heroes of Middle-Earth compares to its predecessors.

The publisher has been tight-lipped about specifics. Additionally, the publisher did not release any images or gameplay. Heroes of Middle-Earth will be a free-to-play collectible role-playing game (RPG).

According to the press release, the game will feature ‘turn-based combat' and characters from J.R.R Tolkien's literary works. As part of the contract, EA will not have access to The Lord of the Rings film rights. The publisher will instead rely on the books as a source of inspiration.

The Lord of the Rings: Heroes Of Middle-Earth will feature immersive storytelling, turn-based combat, deep collection systems, and a wide roster of characters from across the vast universe of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit,” reads the official description.

Release Date

According to the press release, players will experience battles over many iconic stories from Tolkien's works. They will take up the fight against the great evils of Middle-Earth. Social and competitive play will be available.

EA has not provided a release date for The Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-Earth. However, the game will reportedly launch a limited, regional beta test this summer.
