Story 

DOOM: The Dark Ages takes players back to a chaotic time known as the Unholy Crusades. Now, the Doom Slayer emerges as humanity’s last line of defense against Hell’s demons. Alongside the elite Night Sentinels, he forms crucial alliances and fights fiercely to protect humanity from destruction. 

The game explores the Doom Slayer’s beginnings, revealing his reasons for fighting and the tough battles that define him. Players witness as alliances are made, new weapons are created, and the Doom Slayer stands against overwhelming evil. Throughout the game, players uncover ancient secrets, confront tough enemies, and experience intense battles. Notably, these battles shaped the early history of the DOOM series. Development 

After Doom Eternal’s DLC wrapped up in March 2021, ending Doom Slayer’s storyline, creative director Hugo Martin hinted at exploring more tales for the character. He proposed focusing on Doom Slayer’s initial encounters with the Night Sentinels in a fantasy-inspired setting.

In November 2021, ID Software started planning a new action FPS game. During QuakeCon 2022, they confirmed they had begun working on this project. In September 2023, leaked documents revealed plans for a new Doom game titled Doom: Year Zero, with DLCs expected until March 2025. In May 2024, ZeniMax Media filed a trademark for “IDKFA,” a cheat code from the original game Doom 1993. Shortly after, it was officially announced that the new game would be titled DOOM: The Dark Ages.

ID Software’s commitment to refining gameplay mechanics and creating visually stunning environments has been evident throughout the development process. Release Date, Platforms and Edition

DOOM: The Dark Ages was officially announced at Microsoft’s Xbox Games Showcase event on June 9, 2024. The game is set to release in 2025 and will be available on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5. This decision was made to ensure that fans across all platforms could enjoy the latest installment in the DOOM franchise.

Microsoft acquired Bethesda’s parent company, ZeniMax Media, in September 2020, gaining ownership of id Software and the DOOM license. Despite this acquisition, Phil Spencer stated that DOOM’s long history on various platforms made it important to keep the game accessible to all players. 

Therefore, DOOM: The Dark Ages will not be exclusive to any single platform, ensuring that fans everywhere can experience the next chapter in the iconic series.
