In November 2021, ID Software started planning a new action FPS game. During QuakeCon 2022, they confirmed they had begun working on this project. In September 2023, leaked documents revealed plans for a new Doom game titled Doom: Year Zero, with DLCs expected until March 2025. In May 2024, ZeniMax Media filed a trademark for “IDKFA,” a cheat code from the original game Doom 1993. Shortly after, it was officially announced that the new game would be titled DOOM: The Dark Ages.
