Void Crew: Everything We Know

Focus Entertainment and Hutlihut Games have come together to announce Void Crew, an intergalactic space adventure game that sees you, an ill-fated maverick, take to the skies on a quest to eliminate a fearsome aggressor known as the Hallow. Built from the foundations of a classic four-player multiplayer blueprint, the upcoming star-trotting venture will have you and your friends traversing the skies in a galaxy-wide feud with not only an elite alien species, but your crewmates, too.

In the words of Hutlihut Games: “Embark on the most advanced spacecrafts ever built, and journey into deep space on thrilling missions that you and your crew absolutely never trained for! Asteroid storms, solar flares and your buddies’ screw-ups will be the least of your worries, as hostile aliens, and desperate human scavengers push your crew to their limits.”

Interested? If so, then you'll be glad to know that the space-heavy title will be heading to PC via Steam later this year. And what's more, it'll be available to play as a demo at this year's PAX East 2023 event in Boston. Until then, here's everything you'll need to know before adding it to your Wishlist over on Steam.

What Is Void Crew?

Void Crew is an upcoming four-player co-op adventure game by Hutlihut Games. Its premise, which is based around an intergalactic feud between the so-called “chosen ones” and an alien species known as the Hallow, will pit you and a team of three other mavericks against the skies in an epic all-or-nothing showdown.

Launching exclusively for PC, future pilots will have the opportunity to band together to form a crew, allocate the roles, and build a vessel that's willing and able to defy the odds of surviving an intergalactic onslaught. Your goal, as a team, is to turn the tide of war against the Hallow—whatever the cost.

Story

Just to reiterate, Void Crew casts its focus on the “chosen ones”—a four-person squadron that occupies and pilots a ship in the middle of space. Your combined role, as the only ones brave enough to wage war against the alien species, is to build a vessel, man your positions, and take to the skies over a slew of epic intergalactic bouts.

“In the future, a doctrine of survival unites humanity against a mysterious aggressor – the Hollow,” the blurb reads in part. “As the chosen ones, it’s up to you as a crew of up to 4 mavericks to brave the void and bring order to the galaxy!”

Gameplay

Picture Sea of Thieves' watery open-world sandbox playground, along with the various roles that it has you and you friends fill in order to maintain and sail a ship, and then add an intergalactic coating to it. Do this, and you'll pretty much have a rough idea of how Void Crew operates; in tandem with the classic team-based formula. As a blueprint we've seen a number of times before, it's fair to say that Hutlihut Games' upcoming venture probably won't stray all that far from the signature format.

Gameplay-wise, players will embark on a slew of missions across space, using a mixture of teamwork and collaboration to build a spaceship and pilot it across alien-infested biomes and belts. There'll be plenty of customization, options to upgrade, and enough scavenging missions to keep you and your team hot on your heels and in pursuit of the next isolated artefact.

“Pilot the ship, man the turrets, perform emergency repairs, recharge the power cells, utilize space station weaponry, fabricate munitions and exit the ship on extravehicular missions—be it patching the ship hull or scavenging derelict wrecks,” the blurb elaborates. “Teamwork is key: pick a role and prioritize your most urgent tasks with your crew… or try to do everything at once and just wing it as you’ll be short on reliable manpower!”

Development

Hutlihut Games first lifted the veil on Void Crew back in the beginning of March. During the initial announcement, the team behind it said that it would be bringing a live demo of the game to PAX East 2023 between March 23rd and 26th. An actual release date for the game wasn't revealed, though it was confirmed to be somewhere in 2023.

Void Crew - Reveal Trailer

As luck would have it, Hutlihut Games did go on to release a short trailer of Void Crew as part of a recent announcement. Granted, it doesn't let slip a whole lot of detail on the gameplay front, but it does paint the general aesthetic of the experience rather well. And so, if you're still interesting in seeing it in the flesh, then be sure to check out the minute-long sneak preview above.

Release Date, Platforms & Editions

Void Crew will be launching exclusively for PC at some point in 2023. As for when exactly it'll release is still unknown, though the PAX East showcase on March 23rd is sure to shed a little more light on the matter.

As it stands, there is no mention of the game coming to consoles. Is this likely to change as the release date draws nearer? Possibly. But for the time being, if seems both Hutlihut Games and Focus Entertainment will be pouring all of their resources into bringing it to Steam on a first come, first served basis.
