The Devil in Me: 5 Things You Should Know
The Dark Pictures Anthology is set to conclude its first season later this year with The Devil in Me, an all-new interactive thriller that once again sees players assuming the roles of various people over a night of adrenaline-fueled terrors and unhinged QTEs. Like before, you’ll have to tailor the story yourself, using dialogue options and pathways to chalk up one of hundreds of viable conclusions.
Luckily, The Devil in Me isn’t all that far off, which means we’ve already established a clear picture of what’s to come on launch day. So, if you’re interested in knowing the ins and outs of the forthcoming chapter, then read on. Here’s everything you need to know about Supermassive Games’ The Devil in Me.
5. “A Hotel to Die For”
The Dark Pictures: The Devil in Me is a third-person action-adventure game that incorporates choice-based gameplay to help mold its narrative. Like the three chapters that rolled out before, players must cycle between various characters and navigate difficult choices, dialogue options, and QTEs, all while trying to keep as many survivors alive as possible.
The Devil in Me is based around Henry Howard Holmes — America’s first serial killer — and his notorious Murder Castle. As a group of filmmakers, you are invited to a direct replica of Holmes’ castle to film an episode for a newly established documentary. The problem is, the one who gave you the scoop is nowhere to be seen, and the replica swings a little too close to home to be considered a passion project. Question is, who is it that pulls the strings? It’s time to hit record and go on a phishing expedition.
4. Gameplay

There’s that old saying: if you’ve played one Dark Pictures game — you’ve played ’em all. What we mean is, if you’ve spent enough time with any of Supermassive Games, Telltale, of Quantic Dreams’ works, then you’ll know exactly what to expect with The Devil in Me. It’s a cinematic experience that bridges choice-based gameplay with a nexus of drawn-out conclusions, each of which connect to five playable characters.
The Devil in Me will be similar to Man of Medan, Little Hope, and House of Ashes, in the sense that you’ll switch between multiple characters over a relatively short episodic journey and essentially work through the motions. Like before, the idea is to keep as many characters alive by the time the curtain draws to a close. To do this, you will have to build trust with the other characters, make tough-as-nails decisions, and confront your deepest, darkest fears. You know, The Dark Pictures thing.
3. Easter Eggs

If you’ve worked your way through the past three Dark Pictures games, then you’ll know that each entry likes to pay respects to past instalments, as well as give players sneak previews into upcoming chapters. Well, turns out, The Devil in Me will be no different. What this means is that you can expect a slew of hidden Easter eggs that showcase season two of the horror anthology. Or at least, so it appears.
Of course, it’s still early days, and we haven’t the slightest clue what the Easter eggs will be yet. That said, Supermassive Games does have a long-standing history of funneling them into its games. So, yes, you can expect a ton of previews in the upcoming game. And if we had to take a wild guess at what they’ll include, then hey — Winterfold, or The Craven Man. Whatever the case, we won’t have all that long to wait to find out.
2. The Final Chapter

The Dark Pictures Anthology currently consists of four games: Man of Medan, Little Hope, House of Ashes, and The Devil in Me. Collectively, these four games make up the first season of The Dark Pictures Anthology. This is, to our best knowledge, the season in its entirety, which means the upcoming game will cap off the first season before Supermassive Games delves into the second phase.
At the time of writing, Supermassive Games has trademarked a total of five games for the second season of The Dark Pictures Anthology, which are as follows:
- Dark Pictures: Directive 8020
- Dark Pictures: Intercession
- Dark Pictures: Winterfold
- Dark Pictures: The Craven Man
- Dark Pictures Presents: O Death
Unfortunately, Supermassive Games has yet to formally announce any noteworthy details about the filed games. If we had to establish a rough slate for when the games are likely to start rolling out, though, then we’d put a pin on 2024. And if this winds up being true, then the second season will likely power through to 2028, maybe even 2030, providing there’s just over a year between each release. Here’s hoping Supermassive Games release a concrete roadmap for the second season over the coming months.
