What is Starfield: Shattered Space?

For players who are familiar with the world of Starfield, there are many aspects of the game's lore that players want to explore. Well, within Starfield: Shattered Space, players will soon be able to do just that. The game will revolve around the mysterious House Va'Ruun. Tonally, the game seems to take a more sinister turn. This is sure to be a hit with fans, who thought the core story experience could've used with a darker tone as a whole. As is the case with many space epics, players find themselves trying to respond to a distress signal. This serves as the starting action for the expansion. All in all, the story of Starfield: Shattered Space hopes to improve upon its core game's philosophies and introduce new elements that reward the player for picking up the DLC or returning.

Gameplay

One of Starfield‘s core aspects that received much flack was its core combat experience. The Shattered Space DLC hopes to remedy this issue with new weapons and powers to which players can gain access. The drivable vehicles also hope to break up the monotony of traveling in the game. In addition to this, the game's arsenal is seeing a much-needed upgrade. This will not only serve to incentivize players to return in order to complete the DLC content but also reinvigorate the game's core content.

Another element of the game that receives some much-needed love is the spacesuits. Players will be able to collect new suits to improve their gameplay. The game's more challenging gameplay will also require the player to gather these items for themselves. The game will also include more handcrafted content, something that players have been clamoring for for quite some time. While there is not an abundance of information about the upcoming DLC, we can ascertain many of the elements it hopes to improve. One of these elements is the game's traversal mechanics. In turn, this will allow players to explore an element of the world that we have not seen explored heavily.

Unfortunately for some players, however, the game's DLC is paid DLC. While this is seemingly justified by the scope of the project, how this will be received has yet to be determined. Also, players will have more social options in the game. This is sure to improve how players interact with the game's world. In the trailer for the Shattered Space DLC, we can see the game's darker, more macabre tone on display. Players maneuver throughout the hand-crafted environments in a way that seems more weighty, addressing one of the complaints players have had about the game's combat. That is hardly all we see in the trailer, however, as the next scene showcases new enemy designs and more. It appears that weapons are also improving in their variety and usage in the game.

Release Date, Platforms & Editions

If the Summer Games Fest 2024 trailer is anything to go by, the release date for Starfield: Shattered Space can only be speculated. As far as the confirmed platforms, only the Xbox Series X|S and the PC are confirmed. As far as editions of the DLC go, it appears that this DLC comes with the premium version of the game.
