Star Wars Outlaws vs Star Wars Jedi: Survivor
Star Wars ranks high among action-adventure games in all aspects. From consistently inspiring titles that now surpass a hundred to remaining true to what fans desire. Inspiring action-adventure games that keep the player glued to their consoles. In 2024, fans will still dive into the Star Wars universe, this time with Star Wars Outlaws. It’s an action-adventure title from Massive Entertainment, coming after Respawn’s Survivor. So, how do the two installments compare? Let’s find out in this Star Wars Outlaws vs Star Wars Jedi: Survivor comparison.
What is Star Wars Outlaws?
Star Wars Outlaws is an action-adventure video game set to join the list of Star Wars titles in 2024. It’s arguably one of the most anticipated releases in the 2024 summer, mostly for its uniqueness. Developed by Massive Entertainment and Ubisoft as the publisher, Star Wars Outlaws positions itself as the first open-world game in the series. Its gameplay is set in the era between the games The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.
What is Star Wars Jedi: Survivor?
Released in April 2023, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is an action-adventure video game from the developer Respawn Entertainment. The Electronic Arts-published game joined the Star Wars games list, picking up the events years after the previous title. It’s the second installation in the Star Wars Jedi subseries, coming after Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. With Survivor, players continue with Jedi Knight Cal Kestis’s adventure as he fights to survive the Galactic Empire with his peers.
Story

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor after the events of its prequel, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. The game follows the Fallen Order’s story, with the main protagonist, Cal Kestis, the Jedi Knight. He destroyed Jedi Holocron, the artifact used to store Jedi information and teachings of their order. Cal parted ways with his mates Dritus, Merrin, and Junda to proceed with his resistance against the Empire. Working as Saw Gerrera’s fighter, Cal begins by infiltrating the Imperial capital of Coruscant, where he steals valuable military information from Sejan. The Ninth Sister then arrives with a mission to revenge against Cal.
With Star Wars: Outlaws, the game happens in the period between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Unlike Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, the story isn’t about a resistance movement fighting against the Empire. Instead, the Empire fights against criminal syndicates. The tyrannical Empire is taking more control, while the criminal syndicates are becoming more powerful.
Gameplay
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor’s gameplay is very similar to the previous game’s. A narrative-driven single-player game that picks up events from where the prequel left. The game introduces a few new elements beyond what players had, which elevate the playthrough. Cal Kestis uses the lightsaber sword with five different types, each with unique features. The single and double-blade stances return from Fallen Order, along with the dual wield blade, but expanded into a unique stance. New stances include the Kylo-Ren style crossguard sword and the blaster stance. You can deal close and ranged attacks on opponents with a lightsaber and the blaster stance.
For Outlaws, players will still immerse themselves in a single-player and third-person perspective playthrough in the Star Wars universe. Players will engage in an action-adventure experience with stealth, open, space, and vehicle combat. You will be playing Kay Vess, an Outlaw scoundrel who emerges in the game as a young female character. She oozes character and agility, and along with her ally, Nix, the duo pulls a never-seen-before heist in their journey across many planets.
Game Modes
Players in Survivor have plenty of options to enjoy the game. Whether you are heavily invested in the combat or simply want to follow the story and exploration, the game provides all the options. With up to five difficulty options, you only have to find the perfect mode for you, depending on your experience level. Explore the Story Mode with minimal combat challenge, or step up with the Jedi Padawan mode. Jedi Knight provides a standard challenge with medium difficulty. Experienced players can try the Jedi Master or face the hardest challenge with the Jedi Grand Master mode.
For its part, Star Wars Outlaw’s gameplay has yet to be revealed, and the game’s launch is still in the pipeline. The game will probably offer players different options to explore the open world, but fans only have to wait until its full release.
Features
Both Star Wars Outlaws and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor have many NPCs, meaning they both have dialogue options to communicate with the characters. In Outlaws, the branching dialogue feature makes the gameplay more interesting. It allows you to choose what to say to the characters, triggering a flow of conversation. The player character’s traversal options also make the play through even more thrilling with its different modes. You can seamlessly have Kay move from traversing on foot to space or the motocross. Thanks to the slow-motion targeting system, you can even shoot at enemies while riding.
Survivor also has new gameplay features, with the new stances forming the core of the gameplay. However, the game still comprises most of the gameplay mechanics from Fallen Order. The game also comes with a more expansive universe with more NPCs.
Platforms
Respawn Entertainment released Star Wars Jedi: Survivor on April 28, 2023. The game launched for Windows, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. Similarly, Massive Entertainment is set to release Star Wars Outlaws on August 30, 2024, for PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X|S.
Verdict
The Star Wars Outlaws story tells a more captivating story of Kay Vess and Nix’s adventure and an unseen before heist of the Outer Rim. It deviates from the conventional story of heroes trying to survive or save the land, like in Survivor. Players are also assured of an even more thrilling experience as the first open-world Star Wars game, with all the iconic planets in the series and new ones.
