Sackboy: A Big Adventure — Best Costumes (& How to Unlock Them)

Updated on
best platforming games

One of the most enjoyable aspects of Sackboy: A Big Adventure is the variety of costumes available to dress our knitted little friend in. In total, the game features 58 full outfits. Furthermore, you can mix and match the individual parts of these costumes to dress Sackboy however you see fit. As a result, there are hundreds of ways to personalize Sackboy's appearance to your liking. Nonetheless, here are picks for eight of the best costumes in the game, and how to unlock them (aside from purchasing them from the shop).

8. Lion

Just making the cut is the adorable yet fierce Lion costume. Though it is a simple costume, the elegance in simplicity is why we consider it one of the best costumes in the game.

To obtain the Lion costume, or more specifically, its mane, you must achieve the high score reward on The Home Stretch level in the second world, The Colossal Canopy. The Lion Ears you get from the “Cut Above the Rest” level in the same world. And finally, you get the last piece, the Lion Tail, during the “Monkey Business” level, again in the second world.

7. Yeti

Sliding in at number seven, we have the Yeti costume for Sackboy. This is widely regarded as one of the best costumes in the game, and we couldn't agree more. The main reason for this, of course, is Sackboy's knack for pulling off the blue skin, puffy white hair, and curly horns. If you want to get the Yeti costume for your own Sackboy, you can find the parts for it throughout the game's first world, The Soaring Summit.

6. Deep Sea Diver

best costumes

If you want to give Sackboy a Subnautica or Bioshock vibe, the Deep Sea Diver costume is the ideal choice. It may not be the most eye-catching costume in the game, but we adore its underwater aesthetic. As you may have guessed, you get the parts for the Deep Sea Diver throughout the levels in the game's third world, The Kingdom of Crablantis.

5. Console Kitty

best costumes

The Console Kitty costume is one of the most unique costumes in Sackboy: A Big Adventure, and evidently, it's one of the most sought-after. For whatever reason, players can't get enough of Sackboy dressed in a rather scandalous pink cat outfit and with a box tv for a head. Regardless, obtaining this costume is no easy task.

The Console Kitty Chestpiece, Gloves, and Tail can be obtained during the “Flossed in Space” level, which can be accessed in either the game's second world, The Colossal Canopy, or the game's fourth world, The Interstellar Junction. The final pieces, which are the Pants, Shoes, and Screen, can be found during the “The Struggle is Rail” level; also accessible in the game's second and fourth worlds. However, in order to obtain the coveted Screen headpiece, you need to achieve the high score reward for this level.

4. Rock Monster

If Sackboy spent his days jamming out to heavy metal and grinding Guitar Hero in his mom's basement, this is most likely how we would picture him. And, fittingly enough this costume is called “Rock Monster”. Yes, it's a little excessive, but it's also one of the best costumes in the game thanks to its fiery and demonic flair.

If you want your own Sackboy Rockstar, you can collect the parts for the Rock Monster costume in the Choral Reef level of the game's third world, The Kingdom of Crablantis.

3. Vex

best costumes

Most people recognize the dastardly Vex to be the evil enemy you must defeat at the end of the game. But, despite how cruel and menacing he may be, you have to admit his costume is pretty stellar. In fact, we think it's one of the best costumes in the game. The iconic blue and red jester outfit, complete with jingle bells, is simply too good to pass up.

However, if you want to wear the Vex costume, you must first defeat the evil character as part of the game's story. Then, you can unlock the parts for the costume afterward by completing the post-game Wanderplane challenges in the bonus world.

2. Electronica

best costumes

The Electronica costume is what you'd get if Sackboy ever became a DJ. Needless to say, he would be an awesome one at that. But, because of its pure ultramodern style, this vibrant and techno-inspired outfit is one of our personal favorites. If you're looking to grab it for yourself, the parts for the Electronica costume can be found in the game's fourth word, The Interstellar Junction, in the “One Track Mind” level.

1. Sam

best costumes

PlayStation is well-known for its list of exclusive games. And one of the most notable in this roster is video game mastermind Hideo Kojima's, Death Stranding. Featuring actor Norman Reedus as the game's protagonist, Samual “Sam” Porter Bridges. His journey in this thought-provoking title is one of PlayStation's best exclusives. That's why it's no surprise a Sam costume made its way into Sackboy's world of wonders.

If you've played Death Stranding, this will surely be in your picks for the best costumes in the game. Not to mention, Sackboy makes an incredibly convincing Sam. Unfortunately, the only way to obtain this costume is through the Digital Deluxe Edition of Sackboy: A Big Adventure. Nonetheless, due to its resemblance, rarity, and nod to an equally notable PlayStation-exclusive character such as Sackboy himself, the Sam costume is our pick for the best costume in the game.

So, what's your take? Do you agree with our picks? Are there other costumes in Sackboy: A Big Adventure you think are best? Let us know in the comments below or over on our socials here!
