Looney Tunes: Wacky World of Sport — Everything We Know

The Looney Tunes franchise is the gift that keeps on giving. From films, animation, and now video games, these whimsical characters always add a layer of fun and color to your screens. Since the 1970s, Looney Tunes-inspired video games have graced various consoles, spanning different game genres, including platforming, arcade, and sports. And now brace yourself for another wacky sporty adventure in the upcoming Looney Tunes: Wacky World of Sport. From the outside, this title will fly close to its predecessor, Looney Tunes Galactic Sports. Curious to know more? Here is everything we know about the upcoming Looney Tunes: Wacky World of Sport.

What is Looney Tunes: Wacky World of Sport?

Looney Tunes: Wacky World of Sport is an upcoming sports game that gives you control over some of your favorite Looney Tunes characters. The title, revealed during the latest Nintendo Direct, is the first to launch on all home consoles in a long time. The last game to do so was Acme Arsenal, which launched on PS2, Xbox 360, and Wii almost a decade ago.

The upcoming title follows the release of MultiVersus, a free cross-platforming game in which players attempt to knock each other off the stage. It’s essentially Brawlhalla, but with Looney Tunes characters.

Story

In Looney Tunes: Wacky World of Sport, you won’t find a traditional story. This game throws you straight into the action. Stepping into the shoes of one of your favorite Looney Tunes characters, including Daffy Duck, Bugs Bunny, and more, you’ll face off in four different sports. These are soccer, golf, tennis, and basketball. This is a stark difference from Galactic Sports, which featured six games.

Moreover, the upcoming title will occur across various stages set in the iconic character’s backyards. Get ready to revisit Granny’s House, Martian Command Center, Poky’s Barn, Foghorn’s Farm, Galactic Outpost Delta, Road Runner’s Canyon, and more.

Gameplay

Looney Tunes: Wacky World of Sport doesn’t reinvent the wheel with its sports game. Players can take on opponents in solo mode or team up in 2v2 or 4v4 formations in challenging arcade sports games.

Again, you can play as your favorite character or swap them for a character that best suits your play style. So far, the game has confirmed nine characters from the Looney Tunes franchise, including Bugs Bunny, Lola Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Elmer Fudd, Sylvester, Taz, Wile E. Coyote, and the Road Runner.

All these characters are household names with extensive history in the franchise. Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck, of course, have had the spotlight on them a little longer.

Additionally, the upcoming title hints at each character having special abilities. However, there is no information confirming what these could be. Considering the game talks about picking characters to suit your style, it points towards a certain character class system.

Perhaps the character’s in-franchise abilities will be the definition. For example, we could have Bugs Bunny’s trickster tactic to outsmart opponents or Taz’s unpredictable, furious spin that can clear opponents from the field.

While it’s all in the wind now, we can confirm that the characters will feature power-ups that unleash chaos in the game. Ideally, players can spawn objects on the court, which opponents should avoid. This is no surprise since its predecessor features the same gameplay. So be on the lookout for any ACME arsenal.

Finally, the upcoming title will also feature non-playable characters, including K-9, Granny, Tweety, Foghorn Leghorn, Mavin the Martian, Witch Hazel, Babbit and Castello, Nasty Canasta, and Beaky Buzzard.

Development

Bamtang Games is currently working on developing Looney Tunes: Wacky World of Sports. GameMill Entertainment is at the center of the game’s publishing. Ideally, the two studios hold an impressive track record of working with licensed IP games.

Bamtang is renowned for its expertise in creating engaging games based on popular franchises. Some of their notable titles include Spiderman: Mysterio Rush, Nickelodeon Kart Racers 2: Grand Prix, Avatar: The Last Airbender—Quest for Balance, and DreamWorks All-Star Kart Racing.

GameMill Entertainment steps in as the upcoming title’s publisher. The Minnesota-based studio has been involved in publishing Nickelodeon Kart Racers, Cartoon Network: Battle Crashers, Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, and more. This speaks to their experience working with licensed IPs.

Although GameMill was once known for budget PC games and faced criticism for producing “cheap shovelware,” the studio has improved its reputation. Nickelodeon Kart Racers 2: Grand Prix and Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl are two games that received praise for their fun, competitive gameplay. Essentially, this proves GameMill’s commitment to delivering quality experiences.

With Bamtang’s creative prowess and GameMill’s publishing expertise, Looney Tunes: Wacky World of Sports is set to bring an exciting, high-energy sports adventure to fans of all ages.
