Little Nightmares VR: Altered Echoes — Everything We Know

Little Nightmares and its sequel are some of the best puzzle-platform horror adventure games out there. So, to learn of an upcoming VR game simply melts my heart with joy. It’s time that all of the fascinating titles receive a VR counterpart. That way, you truly immerse yourself in the intriguing worlds and compelling lore they create.

Among the review thoughts about the series is that it’s “creative,” “disturbingly brilliant,” and “uncomfortably delightful.” If there was a game that found the tricky balance between light and darkness, grotesque and immersive, haunting and delightful, it’s Little Nightmares. Well, with a VR title, we’re looking at exploring our childhood fears in the most immersive medium there is.

It’ll be interesting to see how VR brings to life the creepy but exceptional environmental design of the series. Before we receive the final game, we’ve gathered all we can find about the upcoming game in our Little Nightmares VR: Altered Echoes — Everything We Know article below.

What is Little Nightmares VR: Altered Echoes?

Little Nightmares VR: Altered Echoes is an upcoming virtual reality game. It’ll bring to life the creepy, unnerving, but ultimately delightful universe of the Little Nightmares series.

We caught wind of the development of the game when Bandai Namco Entertainment released a teaser trailer on June 24, 2025, during a recent Little Nightmares Showcase Event.

Story

Little Nightmares VR: Altered Echoes — Everything We Know

As much as we have official confirmation of the development of Little Nightmares VR: Altered Echoes, we don’t know the story players will follow, let alone if there will be any.

The series has often woven emotional stories following Six, a young girl trapped in an underwater ocean facility. Deep themes such as hunger, isolation, and the trials of adulthood are explored through the disturbing environment.

In the sequel, Six collaborates with Mono, a young boy trapped in a distorted world, to survive the dangers and horrors of Pale City. You have compelling mystery-solving as well as puzzle-solving

There’s an upcoming third game that’ll feature Low and Alone escaping a nightmarish world called “The Nowhere.”

As you can see, similar themes of survival, exploring disturbing locations, and collaborations with a partner are regurgitated. And it’ll be unsurprising that Little Nightmares VR: Altered Echoes takes the same turn of events.

Gameplay

Puzzle-platform, horror survival gameplay has been consistent across the series. So, we expect the virtual reality game to follow the same path. You’ll likely work with a partner, or in single player with AI, to survive and escape a terrifying universe.

The first and second games used 2D sidescrolling, though. So, it’ll be interesting to see the take on the same art style, but in first-person and with VR interactivity.

While Bandai Namco Entertainment is the publisher of the upcoming Little Nightmares VR: Altered Echoes, Iconik Studio will be taking the reins of development. Quite interesting, given that Little Nightmares’ previous developer was Tarsier Studios.

Being a virtual reality game makes sense, though, for Iconik to grab the wheels on this one. On their website, they pride themselves on “developing immersive experiences that blend reality and virtuality, art, and technology, storytelling and gameplay.”

Based in La Ciotat in France, Iconik Studios has a keen interest in “3D, videos, programming, and electronics.” They aim to exploit the senses, immersing gamers in “original and spectacular worlds.”

Little Nightmares VR: Altered Echoes isn’t at all Iconik Studios’ first game. They have worked on Hunting VR, Line of Fire, and Mutations

Bandai Namco Entertainment is a major Japanese publisher, popularly known for video games, as well as toys and amusement parks. You know them from Tekken, Dragon Ball, Pac-Man, Little Nightmares, among many others.

The Bandai Namco announcement for the upcoming VR game came with the celebration of 20 million Little Nightmares sales. Moreover, the publisher confirmed the upcoming Little Nightmares III will launch on October 10, 2025, and that gamers can preorder it as early as now.

Also, they confirmed the release of the Little Nightmares Enhanced Edition on October 10, 2025, a new season for The Sounds of Nightmares podcast, a comic book titled Little Nightmares: Descent to Nowhere on October, 2025, and a young adult novel titled Little Nightmares: The Lonely Ones on September, 2025.

Evidently, there are multiple Little Nightmares projects underway, all exciting in their own right, and we cannot wait to get our hands on them.

Trailer

Literally, the only concrete piece of information we have is the Little Nightmares VR: Altered Echoes teaser trailer. And unfortunately, in only under one minute, it wraps up with very little of the story and gameplay details revealed. All we can see from the teaser trailer is the name of the upcoming VR game.

We also get an ominous scene. A door in an atmospheric setting, drenched in pink, opens up to a music box. If you’ve played Little Nightmares, you might remember the music box, and the jingle itself will also sound familiar.

Scrolling down to the video description, it reads, “Every step echoes closer… does this tune sound familiar, little ones?”

Release Date, Platforms, & Editions

Little Nightmares VR: Altered Echoes — Everything We Know

Based on the barely revealing teaser trailer, it’s unsurprising that we don’t have a release window or date for the upcoming Little Nightmares VR: Altered Echoes. We don’t have any confirmed platforms or editions, either.

Given the scarce story, gameplay, release date, or even platform details, we can conclude that the game is still very much in its early development phase. For all we know, we could be looking at months and even years before launch.

Worry not, though, as I’m sure Iconik Studios and Bandai Namco Entertainment will be keen to reveal any new updates on the development process. So, definitely stay tuned on their socials, while we also keep our eyes peeled for any new announcements pertaining to the information still in the wind.

In the meantime, do check out the upcoming Little Nightmares III. If anything, it should provide you with a clearer idea of the aesthetic, universe worldbuilding, puzzle elements, secrets, mysteries, and overall gameplay to expect from the VR counterpart.
