Formula Legends is racing towards us, and it’s already turning heads with its throwback vibes, modern tech, and love letter approach to Formula racing. And if you love a good arcade challenge, this game might just hit that perfect sweet spot.
So, what’s happening with Formula Legends, and why is the racing community buzzing about it? Here’s everything we know about Formula Legends.
What is Formula Legends?

Formula Legends is an exciting upcoming arcade racing game that captures the pure thrill of open-wheel motorsport. It takes players on a high-speed journey through different eras of racing history, from the 1960s to the modern day. The developers are aiming for a sweet spot: a game that’s “easy to pick up but hard to master.” The developers are aiming for the perfect balance: a game that’s “easy to pick up but hard to master.” So, that means anyone can jump in and enjoy it, while experienced racers will still find plenty of depth and challenge.
Behind this ambitious project is 3DClouds, an Italian studio filled with developers who clearly love motorsports. They’ve said they want to emulate the sport “playfully,” which suggests a focus on fun and excitement rather than strict realism. Some gaming outlets, like IGN, have even compared Formula Legends to “Art of Rally meets F1.” That paints a picture of a stylish, accessible racer with a real appreciation for motorsport history – a combo that sounds perfect for racing game fans of all kinds.
Formula Legends Story

The heart of Formula Legends lies in its Story Mode, built to let players relive the defining moments of Formula racing. This isn’t just a typical career mode, it’s about jumping into key moments that helped shape motorsport history. The structure is centered around era-based championships, so players will progress through different time periods, each with its own challenges and highlights. It’s an invitation to not just witness, but to actively participate in a historical motorsport saga.
One of the main highlights of these era-based championships is the chance to master legendary cars. The game features 16 unique models inspired by real-world designs spanning from the 1960s to the present day. While specific plot details are still under wraps, the entire focus of the Story Mode seems to be on celebrating the rich heritage of Formula racing.
Formula Legends Gameplay

So, what will it actually feel like to hit the track in Formula Legends? Since the game is still in development, we’re focusing on the exciting features that have been officially revealed. The developers, 3DClouds, are no strangers to the racing genre. They’ve previously worked on titles like Xenon Racer, Paw Patrol Grand Prix, and Hot Wheels Monster Trucks Stunt Mayhem.
In Formula Legends, you’ll get to race cars from different decades of Formula racing. There are 16 different models, each with 7 paint jobs inspired by famous teams, so that’s 112 unique car styles to unlock and race. You won’t just be stuck in one time period either. The game lets you “drive through time,” starting from older classics and moving toward today’s modern machines. That means you’ll get a full taste of how Formula racing has changed over the years, at least in terms of style and vibe.
Moreover, there will be 14 tracks, all based on famous racing locations. But they won’t stay the same. Each track changes depending on the era you’re racing in. So, a circuit in the ‘70s might look and feel different than it does in the 2000s. Expect to see different scenery, layouts, or racing conditions as you move through the timeline. Weather and pit stops will also play a big part, so winning a race might take more than just speed.
You’ll also pick from over 200 fictional drivers, each inspired by real racing legends. Every driver comes with their own perks. Some are great in the rain, others save tires better, and a few are pit-stop experts. Choosing the right driver for the right track could give you an edge. On top of that, you’ll be able to create custom races.
Development

As mentioned above, Formula Legends is being developed (and published) by Italian studio 3DClouds. For this game, the team says this project has been a true passion project built by racing fans. They emphasize a “race fast and have fun” philosophy, aiming to create an over-the-top F1-inspired arcade experience that appeals to both veteran racers and newcomers. It’s essentially an arcade thrill ride crafted by folks who live and breathe motorsport.
