Empyreal: Everything We Know
For what little gameplay footage the trailer for Empyreal reveals, you do get some chills running down your spine. Still, you can’t help but wish that there was more meat to bite into. At least then, you can be certain whether it’s the right game for you. Well, hopefully, our Everything We Know article about Empyreal should help clear any remaining cobwebs for you. We explore the story, gameplay, development, release date, and more in the article below.
What is Empyreal?

Empyreal is an upcoming single-player action adventure RPG. The developing team describes it as “complex, challenging, and feature-rich.” So, there are quite a lot of promises there that we hope they manage to keep. The battles will take place in some faraway, secluded area of the galaxy. You’ll be a part of a team of expeditioners who have just arrived on a mysterious planet. But your expedition holds an exciting surprise: at the center of the planet is a colossal Monolith left behind by a lost civilization. But this isn’t just any ruin discovery; the monolith harbors lots of danger. Soon, you find yourselves on a dark path, uncovering hidden secrets and fighting hostile foes.
Story

Upon stumbling onto an ancient colossal Monolith built by a lost civilization, you quickly discover that terrifying dangers and enemies lie ahead. But exciting secrets, too, await your thorough exploration. While many had tried to explore the Monolith before you and failed, you’re an elite mercenary who may just be the last hope. You’ll dive into single-player, braving the dangers the Monolith throws at you. Among the chief enemies you’ll face are vicious automatons. The world you’ll be exploring is sci-fi based, from the Monolith designs to the automatons within it. It’s likely the automatons were also a creation of the lost civilization, which must have been proficient in technological advancement.
Gameplay

Empyreal’s gameplay is straightforward. All you do is survive the threats you face. Meanwhile, you’ll also uncover ancient secrets, some of which are incredibly influential to the human race. Thanks to Steam, we have a clear picture of the key features you can expect in the final game.
- Face dangerous enemies using a “unique and complex combat system,” part of which is shown in the trailer video below.
- Meet an exciting roster of characters, each having personal missions and unraveling multiple endings.
- Explore a stunning and ancient planet filled with jaw-dropping areas and lots of hidden details.
- Freely customize your character, selecting from a bunch of equipment and armor sets and tinkering around with potent buffs.
- Keep leveling up the more you play, hunting down the best loot you can find.
- While leveling up, unlock more powerful skills and abilities that further help you craft a play style that works for you.
Development

Developer Silent Games and publisher Secret Mode are currently working on Empyreal. Silent Games specializes in creating excellent action RPGs. While they haven’t quite made a mark in the gaming industry just yet, Empyreal could be the trailblazer the studio makes. Secret Mode, on the other hand, has more gaming experience. They are exclusive game publishers, having worked on games like A Little to the Left, Critter Cafe, Deathsprint 66, and more.
Combined, the developing and publishing teams promise intense combat, which is showcased in the teaser trailer. Meanwhile, founder and CEO at Silent Games, Sally Blake, adds, “We are very excited to finally reveal the game our team has been working hard on for the last few years. I believe we have managed to develop something that will resonate with players of hardcore RPGs that like to explore a huge variety of gameplay systems and enjoy a sophisticated narrative with complex themes.”
Trailer
Empyreal’s teaser trailer is out now on YouTube. It seems to follow a female protagonist who kicks off the video, saying, “As for the answers you seek, I can only set you on the path.” She runs headfirst into a giant Monolith and instantly cues frenetic combat against automatons. Using elemental-enabled weapons, looking like double-edged greatswords and laser-beam sci-fi guns, you’ll fight lots of heavy-armored enemies. From single-handed to dual weapons, you’ll hack and slash through metal. Also, despite your mech build, the fighters seem pretty agile, with one of the enemies jumping high up to finish off his opponent.
Sure, the combat looks intense and fun. However, there are some hiccups you can’t help but notice. The environments, for instance, look too empty. There are hardly enticing areas to explore and very minimal detail that bites into your intrigue. Most of the trailer features combat that is too close up you see very little of the environment. And perhaps a more detailed trailer will be released in the future. Another trailer certainly wouldn’t hurt, especially with the short and abrupt way the teaser trailer ends. You could blink and miss all of the action.
As we look forward to seeing a little more of the action and the “breathtaking environments” the developers promise, we’ll cross our fingers that Empyreal does indeed deliver a fun way to blow off some steam. We hope the cartoony aesthetic will land somehow, possibly when integrated with a compelling, mystery-ridden story. If the combat and exploration both pack lots of content that looks and feels interesting to unwind, Empyreal could be a major hit next year.
Release Date, Platforms, & Editions

From the trailer, you can rest assured that Empyreal will be arriving sometime in 2025. Also, the new game will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC platforms via Steam. Unfortunately, we don’t have confirmation of any editions that may be available for preorder, but we’ll be keeping an eye out for fresh announcements.
