If you’re new to Devil May Cry: Peak of Combat, here are the best beginner tips you should try.

5. Perfectly Time Your Dodges and Jumps

As any Devil May Cry veteran will tell you, surviving combat relies on perfectly timing your dodges and jumps. Peak of Combat isn’t any different in that regard, but which one should you pick in the heat of the battle? Well, performing a dodge just before an incoming attack can help you down the line. Specifically, dodges don’t consume any resources. They don’t have any cooldowns either, so you can perform dodges pretty much any time you want. 

But jumps make a good case for themselves, too. When you perform a jump just before an incoming attack, it can give you room to respond with a special move. Countering an enemy attack can drastically shift the scale in your favor. It can mean winning or losing a game. In the end, it comes down to how much risk you’re willing to take and how much you’ve mastered by perfectly executing either skill. Remember, timing is key.

4. The Art of Combos

Meanwhile, performing combos is a different subject altogether. It helps you string together a flurry of powerful attacks and blows on opponents, leaving them no room to breathe. However, each character has a unique combo input. So, you need to master how to execute the perfect combos for each one to gain the upper hand in combat. A quick tip is to study the character book to learn each character’s combos.

Since combos string together multiple moves in a short time, they can cause devastating damage to enemies. It also renders the enemy vulnerable, which you can take advantage of and dish out even more devastating blows. Contrary to popular opinion, combos don’t always have to start with heavy attacks. You can string together your basic moves in between special abilities as well, preferably moves you’ve mastered already. 

3. Upgrades Wait for No Man

By this point, you’ll know that upgrading at all times absolutely makes all the difference, not just in Peak of Combat but in most games out there. See, when you’re a newbie, the enemies you run into in the story missions are fairly easy to beat, even though they seem tough. Run along to the latter missions, and you’ll meet far more fearsome enemies and bosses with more serious difficulty. But the expectation is that you’ve been upgrading your characters as well to match the game’s growing intensity.

Lucky for you, Peak of Combat doesn’t have a one-size-fits-all path for upgrading. You have a variety of options, from boosting your character’s level to upgrading your weapons, skills, and cards. You want to follow the main quests studiously to gain as much EXP as you can. More EXP means higher levels for your character, i.e., higher stats and upgrades that equal more power in combat. You also gain passive skills that give you buffs in battle. Consequently, higher-level characters are more likely to win on the battlefield.

While on the subject, make sure to save your game at the phone booths. It’ll save you from backtracking. But most importantly, phone booths are where you can upgrade your skills as well. 

2. Experiment Ad Infinitum

Peak of Combat shifts gears when it comes to characters, where instead of playing just one character at a time, you have a party of three characters at your disposal. It gives you room to create the strongest team with varying skills, which also means that you’ll want to be swapping between characters mid-play. If you want to break through an enemy’s defense shield, you can switch to a heavy-hitting tank build. Thereafter, you can switch to a demon hunter to hunt down enemies.

Each character varies in skill and playstyle. You also unlock new characters continuously throughout the game by cruising through the story mode and completing quests. To become a true master of combat, you’ll want to experiment with different characters and learn their moves, combos, and gear. Once you’re comfortable with every character Peak of Combat has to offer, you can go ahead and pick your go-to favorites.

1. An Apple a Day Keeps the Doctor Away – Do Daily Missions

No apples to gobble up in Peak of Combat, I’m afraid. However, you do have daily missions, which you’ll want to log into the game every day to complete. Make it a habit, and in return, you’ll gain rewards, including red orbs, gems, and upgrades. The daily missions aren’t too big of a challenge. You can easily beat them, provided you also put time into practice. Your task can be to defeat an enemy or go on an epic adventure. Earn 10 points, and you’ll unlock rewards just for participating daily.  

Meanwhile, you also want to check out the Resources and Challenges section from the Events menu. Here, you’ll find various objectives to complete, including the vine of greed and perfect timing, that reward you with upgrades, weapon chests, elixirs, potions, red orbs, spectres, skill manuals, and more. Sometimes, these can be your daily objectives. Either way, daily missions reset daily and offer ample rewards based on specific goals.
