Timekeeper Final Fantasy 16: The Rising Tide

At any given time, players can only carry one sword to battle. It makes it all the more difficult to choose which sword to fight with. There are a variety of swords you can unlock along Clive’s journey. Some have high Attack power. Others have a high Stagger rate. While some are mere averages. In the end, it’s up to you to choose which sword fits your playstyle. However, we can make that decision a little easier for you by curating the best swords in Final Fantasy 16. Regardless of the situation, these swords have no problem quickly killing the enemy and taking down hordes of enemies.

5. Invictus Sword

Final Fantasy 16 Invictus Sword - How To Use Invictus Ultimate Guide!

With an Attack power of 165 and a stagger rate of 165, the Invictus Sword is a force to be reckoned with. It’s especially great for players just getting started in Final Fantasy 16. Throughout your early to mid-game playthrough, Invictus is one of the easiest swords you can get that delivers on its promise. It’s actually a generational sword in Clive’s family line, passed down in the Archduke’s family and his closest Shields. It’s also one of a set of seven swords that was made in the flames of Mt. Drustanus. Invictus is pretty easy to identify, even appearing on the cover of the game.

How to Get Invictus Sword

Head out to the town of Eastpool in the story’s “Holding On” main mission. There, you’ll find Lady Hannah, who’ll give the sword to you. Easy peasy.

4. Defender Sword

Ragnarok and Defender swords

Next up is the Defender Sword, a practical knight’s sword you can rely on when going on the offense. Fans of Final Fantasy may know it since it’s often present in Final Fantasy games. Its main characteristic is raising your Defense stats. Thus, helping to protect the player in some way. It has a high Attack power of 320 and a Stagger rate of 320, which you can further reinforce to 330 or 340 for each stat. While there are a few swords that boast a higher attack and stagger rate, it’s this very same reason that makes most players underestimate Defender’s efficiency in battle. After all, most RPG strategists will reiterate that the best offense is a good defense. And Defender offers the best of both worlds.

How to Get Defender

You can get Defender from Goetz’s Toll in the story’s “Streets of Madness” main mission. Or, buy it at Charon’s Toll for 5000 gil. Or, better still, craft and reinforce the sword by collecting the required crafting and reinforcement materials and giving them to the NPC Blackthorne in Cid’s Hideaway.

3. Ragnarok Sword

Ragnarok Sword is an immensely, iconic, powerful sword that plays two major roles: slaying hordes of enemies and crafting yet another powerful sword, the Gotterdammerung. On its own, Ragnarok has an impressive Attack power of 325 and a Stagger rate of 325. It’s especially great for tackling fearsome bosses. Though it also handles itself very well when fighting hordes of enemies. For the value it brings, it’s no surprise that obtaining Ragnarok requires going through a series of side quests. The side quests have semi-hard combat and a mini-boss. But, in the end, you’ll receive one of the strongest swords in your first playthrough.

How to Get Ragnarok

You’ll need to complete all four Blacksmith’s Blues side quests in the saga. Each one unlocks after the other. All four have the same name, with a numeral indicator to let you know which quest you’re currently on. You can access the side quests at the start of the story’s “Across the Narrow” main mission. Only when you complete Blacksmith’s Blues IV, alongside Gotterdammerung Design Draft curiosity, do you receive Ragnarok.

2. Ultima Weapon

Ultima Weapon is, indeed, the ultimate sword you can ever aspire to get in Final Fantasy 16. It carries a whopping Attack power of 700 and a Stagger rate of 700, exceptionally high compared to any other sword available in the game. The only downside is that Ultima is only accessible to you once you beat the playthrough and can access New Game +, which essentially restarts the game with stronger enemies to fight. Hence, the exceptionally high Attack and Stagger rates to defeat the tenaciously difficult enemies of your second playthrough. Otherwise, there’s no debate. The Ultima Weapon is the strongest weapon you can wield in Final Fantasy 16. There’s only one very arduous process – to beat the game once – that stands in your way.

How to Get Ultima Weapon

You can get the Ultima Weapon once you complete your first playthrough and unlock New Game +. Thereafter, select Final Fantasy Mode. This mode is the most difficult. So, getting the Ultima Weapon is a no brainer to survive it. You’ll need to collect the required crafting materials, including the Ragnarok Sword. Getting Ragnarok is the same process as before. You’ll need to complete all four Blacksmith’s Blues side quests. Once you have all the required materials, give them to the NPC Blackthorne in Cid’s Hideaway to craft Ultima for you.

1. Gotterdammerung Sword

Gotterdammerung, also known as Twilight of the Gods, is a sword you can get from upgrading Ragnarok. Besides Ultima, it comes in as the second most powerful weapon you can find in Final Fantasy 16, with an Attack Power of 375 and a Stagger rate of 375. If your goal is to dominate the first playthrough, then Gotterdammerung is the sword you need. The process to obtain it won’t be easy. However, it’s a worthwhile one to get the sword with an unrivaled damage and stagger rate.

How to Get Gotterdammerung

First, complete all four Blacksmith’s Blues side quests to get the Ragnarok Sword and the Gotterdammerung Design Draft curiosity blueprint. Then, proceed to acquire the remaining required crafting materials, which will require you to hunt powerful monsters on the Hunt Board and Notorious Marks’ list. Afterward, take the required materials to The Black Hammer in Cid’s Hideaway to craft Gotterdammerung.
