Battlefield 6: Everything We Know

Adding a Battle Royale mode to the Battlefield experience may not have been the best way forward for DICE. In fact, there were many things that went wrong in the latest Battlefield entries. Historical inaccuracies, limited content, and technical issues, to name a few.

Fans, though, have been putting their complaints and feedback forward. And now that Battlefield 6 is officially confirmed, it sparks curiosity about whether DICE will deliver. If DICE can return to Battlefield 3 and 4’s realism, that grit of war, and authenticity, perhaps the upcoming entry will be a whopping success.

Anyway, as we await launch day, we’ve compiled everything we know about Battlefield 6 in the article below.

What is Battlefield 6?

Battlefield_6

Battlefield has been a remarkable series in the gaming world, adopting a military first-person shooter gameplay style. Gamers usually compete in online multiplayer. They unlock military weapons and vehicles, collaborate on strategies against opposing teams, and clear out massive maps.

So far, there have been 12 mainline entries in the Battlefield series, plus additional spin-offs and expansions. And the entries often take place in World War II, alternate histories, or futuristic settings. The latest entry, Battlefield 2042, was released on November 12, 2021, to mixed reviews: Its high-tech gadgets may not have impressed veterans as much.

Now, we’re looking forward to the upcoming Battlefield 6. As has been the norm, you can expect to join a squad and coordinate controlling military tanks and fighter jets, while engaging in massive-scale combat. There will likely be new features, too. But will the upcoming entry be the one to restore the series to its glory days?

Story

We don’t have much yet with regard to the story Battlefield 6 will follow. However, the reveal trailer description does reveal some tantalizing details. Pax Armata, a globally leading private military company, will apparently be wreaking havoc on NATO and its allies. They will launch coordinated assaults in Belgium, Georgia, and Gibraltar, in the name of upholding their motto: “Our Protection, Your Peace.”

In the reveal trailer video itself, the President of the United Citizens addresses the nation. “Today represents a dark day in our history, with this monstrous, unprovoked attack,” he says. “No country is safe from their reach…For the PAX mercenaries who are watching now, I have a message: It’s over.”

This suggests a US military battle against the PAX company, sure to get all kinds of messy. Specifically, NATO (the North Atlantic Treaty Organization) from Europe and North America, and its allies, against PAX Armata.

Gameplay

Combat

Throughout the reveal trailer, there is vicious chaos. Tanks launch into story-towered buildings, leaving a pile of destruction in their wake. Helicopters crash, one too many. You’ll leap into the skies in fighter jets and take the fight to the enemy. Whether on the ground or in the air, opponents won’t stand a chance against your military grade weapons and vehicles.

Gameplay does look realistic and authentic to World War II. And there are delicious scenes of teamwork among your squadmates. The maps look diverse, too, featuring lush mountainous regions and foxholes. Bridges collapse. Entire buildings crumble into a pile of dust. Destruction sure seems to be the order of the day.

There is more information to come, surrounding the story and gameplay flow of Battlefield 6. July 31’s Multiplayer Reveal Event will definitely reveal concrete details, including mission structures, game modes, and more. So, do keep an eye out for the event, alongside updates on the respective store pages.

Development

Soilders

Swedish developer EA DICE and American publisher Electronic Arts have been at the forefront of wheeling the Battlefield franchise forward. As for Battlefield 6, it’ll be developed by Battlefield Studios and published by Electronic Arts. If you’re wondering where Battlefield Studios sprang up from, well, it’s a merge of developers with over 20 years of experience working on the Battlefield franchise, as well as emerging talent in the gaming industry.

Battlefield is definitely a mega showstopping franchise, with decades worth of experience. And to that extent, there is some hope that Battlefield 6 will not disappoint. However, fans have been burned before with broken promises. Previous entries have launched with technical issues, limited maps and weapons, historical inaccuracies, and more. Since user feedback has been relayed, all we can do now is hope that Battlefield Studios listens.

Battlefield 6 Official Reveal Trailer

Whoever directed the Battlefield 6 reveal trailer must have debated on how many helicopter crashes to include, and arrived at, uhm, as many as possible in the roughly two-minute-long video. I suspect the new “destructive” engine is that good, and needed to be showcased at every chance possible. And I suppose the crashes do look perfect.

There’ll definitely be lots of chaos in the upcoming game. You’ll rip and tear through intense ground warfare and aerial dogfights. The destructive areas in the Battlefield series have always been impressive, and we expect it to hit a new high with the current-gen hardware.

Release Date, Platforms, & Editions

Battlefield 6

Unfortunately, the exact release date for Battlefield 6 is unknown. While we await official confirmation, feel free to add the game to your wishlist on Steam or the Epic Games Store. Besides current-gen PC platforms, though, the new entry will be coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles as well. The omission of PlayStation 4 and Xbox One is good news, as it likely suggests higher graphical fidelity and advanced gameplay mechanics.

Preorders have yet to go live, with the gaming community anticipating that they may open on July 31. We also don’t have official confirmations of the editions that will be available for preorder. However, early leaks suggest there may be Standard and Phantom premium editions going for $79.99 and $109.99, respectively.

In the meantime, you can keep up with development progress by following the official social media handle. Battlefield Studios is also calling on all interested parties to tune into the upcoming Multiplayer Reveal Event on July 31, 2025, where they are likely to announce more information on the story, gameplay, pre-orders, release date, and more.
