Battlefield 2042: The Details You Need After EA’s Announcement

Electronic Arts officially spilt the beans on Battlefield 2042 earlier today during an official live stream. In a relatively short showcase that spread over the likes of Twitch, YouTube and Facebook, DICE and EA spun the web and compiled all the juicy details for the highly-anticipated entry to the franchise. And, as expected from such a celebrated publisher — fans weren't disappointed with the contents of the afternoon reveal.

Staying true to the formula, EA included all of the things one would expect from a video game reveal in digital format. The key detail that streamers were itching to find out, of course, was the official launch date for the game. Only, to most of the viewers' surprise, EA essentially pinned a much earlier date than we expected. October 22nd, amazingly enough. As for the platforms, Battlefield 2042 will release on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC, with pre-orders being available starting from $59.99.

DICE Manager Oskar Gabrielson spoke about Battlefield 2042 in a statement…

“Battlefield 2042 is an evolution of the franchise and embraces what our players want – the ultimate ‘Battlefield’ multiplayer sandbox with intense combat and a ton of incredible, unexpected events,” Gabrielson wrote. “All of us across DICE in Stockholm, DICE LA, Criterion and EA Gothenburg have had so much fun developing this game and now it’s time to let players jump in. What they’ll find is that we’ve built three distinct, absolutely epic experiences that we think they’ll love.”

“Battlefield 2042 is a first-person shooter that marks the return to the iconic all-out warfare of the franchise. Adapt and overcome in a near-future world transformed by disorder. Squad up and bring a cutting-edge arsenal into dynamically-changing battlegrounds supporting 128 players*, unprecedented scale, and epic destruction.”

Battlefield 2042 will release on October 22nd on PlayStation, Xbox and PC. You can pre-order the game now for $59.99 with early access to the open beta edition. The game will also serve up three editions: Standard, Gold, and Ultimate, tallying up to $119.99. You can follow the updates for the game via DICE's official Twitter handle here.
