There’s quite a lot that the upcoming WWE 2k25 is planning to do differently. And just a year since the original WWE 2k24 graced our consoles. At the core, of course, is largely the same game. However, 2k Games promises to bring quality-of-life changes that elevate the gameplay to the next level. 

While we’re still receiving updates on all we can expect ahead of the March 14, 2025 release date (early access on March 7, 2025, for the Deadman or The Bloodline edition), here’s a quick comparison guide highlighting which entry is better between WWE 2k24 vs WWE 2k25.

What is WWE 2k24?

WWE 2k24 is a professional wrestling sports video game that launched on March 5, 2024. The title hails from developer Visual Concepts and publisher 2K. It marks the 24th overall entry in the WWE video game series. 

However, it’s the 10th game under the WWE 2K banner, following after March 14, 2023’s WWE 2k23. WWE 2k24 features “The American Nightmare” Cody Rhodes, who joins Bianca Blair and Rhea Ripley on the official cover of the game. Die-hard fans of WWE can follow their stories careers across WrestleMania’s 2K Showcase of the Immortals game mode. 

Moreover, you can play the MyRISE, MyFACTION, and MyGM modes, or choose the all-new Guest Referee and Gauntlet match types. With the returning Season Pass, players enjoy an even bigger roster of over 20 more Superstars and pop-culture icons like Post Malone and Pat McAfee across five post-launch DLC packs.

What is WWE 2k25?

WWE 2k25, on the other hand, is the upcoming professional wrestling sports video game, following after WWE 2k24. It’s slated to launch on March 7, 2025. In a most exciting reveal, the superstar Roman Reigns will feature on the cover of the new game, as well as The Undertaker on the Deadman edition. 

Furthermore, WWE 2k25 will add over 300 superstars, legends, and Hall of Famers to the upcoming roster unlike any other. For the first time also, players will be able to step outside the ring onto The Island, which will be a WWE-themed world curated for the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Here, you’ll play through several epic arenas, take on several challenges, and encounter live events. Another exciting introduction to the WWE 2K series is intergender wrestling.

Moreover, while the game modes in WWE 2k24 will remain mostly intact, MyRISE, in particular, will receive an all-new unified storyline that adds fresh brawl environments, unlockable arenas, and characters. 

As for MyGM, it’ll include online multiplayer of up to four players. Meanwhile, you’ll enjoy the return of chain wrestling as well as Universe Promos.

Story

The biggest change to the story is the new open-world mode. This isn’t an entirely unfamiliar feature that seems to mimic NBA 2K’s The City. While The City has its ups and down, on the whole, it’s an exciting place to do whatever you want. 

You can roam around an open-world city and play street basketball with NPCs. The success of The Island in WWE 2k25 will ultimately depend on the meticulous and immersive execution by Visual Concepts. It needs to be fun and feel like an actual lived in place.

Gameplay

For the most part, WWE 2k25’s gameplay remains intact from its predecessor. So, you can expect to play the usual one-on-one wrestling matches with hopefully improved mechanics. The new game will feature the Showcase mode, backstage brawls, and even Royal Rumble matches. 

However, there are some key changes to note. Key above them all is the introduction of intergender matches. This means you’ll have more room to come up with some exciting matchups. 

Moreover, you can look forward to chain wrestling. This’ll doubtlessly be adrenaline-packed with online players in tow. It’s possible the controls can be a little tricky but if Visual Concepts executes it right, complete with seamless controls and exciting cinematics, then the global gaming community may be in for a hella good time.

Lastly, there are subtle changes WWE 2k25 promises that you’ll soon discover once you play through the game. There are changes to the submission mechanic, for example. Also, matches are expected to flow more smoothly. You can execute possum attacks from different sides. You can perform pinfall reversals in split-seconds in a more natural way. 

Paybacks will cost a bit less, barricade diving has been added to the mix, while the tag team matches will be more fair when breaking out of a pin. Combined, the subtle changes intend to make WWE 2k25’s gameplay more fluid, dynamic, and ultimately, more fun. 

Graphics

As for the graphics, they are always a mixed bag when it comes to annual franchises. When the graphics have already reached the peak of realism, it becomes difficult to make any significant changes. 

But the early screenshots are showing improvements in the facial structure. Some superstars do get more attention to detail than others. You’d expect Roman Reigns, the cover superstar, for instance, to look damn near perfect. 

Verdict: WWE 2K24 Vs WWE 2K25

Annual franchises don’t always make huge leaps in the story and gameplay. However, WWE 2k25 is promising some significant changes that if well executed could mean a genuinely great time. WWE 2k24 seemed to have reached its peak. 

The wrestling mechanics are spot on as are the game modes and immense roster. As such, it’s unsurprising that WWE 2k25 retains most of the original’s flair, only tweaking a few of its game modes.

The core gameplay will likely receive a few subtle changes that may go unnoticed. And yet, you cannot ignore the addition of the new open-world mode or the introduction of intergender wrestling to the franchise.

Both have been long-awaited, and frankly, about time they made it to the series. All of these factors combined makes WWE 2k25 a definite better title compared to WWE 2k24. There’s a chance the gameplay may feel largely the same.

However, Visual Concepts and 2K Games are coming in with some new additions and subtle changes that will highly likely elevate the gaming experience to the next level. Here’s our final verdict on WWE 2K24 vs. WWE 2K25.
