Wonder Woman: The Game — Everything We Know

Wonder Woman: The Game

Just over two years ago WB Games took the stage at The Game Awards 2021 to announce its newest project, Wonder Woman: The Game. Given that it’s centered on DC Comics’ greatest Amazonian warrior, Diana of Themyscira, the announcement elicited an emphatic response from the audience. However, since its announcement, there have been little to no updates on the game. And, considering we’re an impatient bunch when it comes to superhero games, we thought we’d compile together everything we know about Wonder Woman: The Game. So if you want to learn more about the game, read on to find out!

What is Wonder Woman: The Game?

Wonder Woman: The Game

Exactly as it sounds, Wonder Woman: The Game is a new action-adventure game based on DC Comics’ iconic superhero, Wonder Woman. From what we know so far, the game is single-player and will feature open-world exploration. Currently, in development by Monolith Productions, we anticipate that Wonder Woman: The Game will follow in the footsteps of the studio’s other single-player open-world adventures, such as Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War.

Story

As far as the story goes, Wonder Woman: The Game will “introduce an original story set in the DC universe,”. So you can say goodbye to the movie or comic book adaptations, which is probably for the best. Not because those movies are bad to any degree, but because sometimes it’s just better to start with a fresh narrative, which is exactly what we’re getting here. Unfortunately, very few details about the game’s plot have been revealed. All we know is that you, “become Diana of Themyscira in the fight to unite her Amazon family and the humans from the modern world.”

Nonetheless, it sounds like a fitting and enticing narrative we can get behind. The burning question, however, is what supervillain will be at play in this title? Is it too obvious to target Wonder Woman’s archenemy, the Cheetah? Perhaps Monolith Productions will take a different approach and base it on Wonder Woman’s origin story, which leads to her battle with the God of War Ares. The truth of the matter is that we don’t know, but it shouldn’t be long before we find out.

Gameplay

Wonder Woman: The Game

At the same time, very little news had been shed on the gameplay side of things. In terms of combat, we’d feel robbed if we didn’t get to use Wonder Woman’s Lasso of Truth, Indestructible Bracelets, and Tiara. All of which are trademark items for the Superhero. Although we cannot guarantee that they will appear in the game, we have high hopes that they, along with a slew of other powerful and destructive superhero moves, will make up the action gameplay.

What we do know, however, is that Wonder Woman: The Game will use Monolith’s Nemesis System from the Middle-earth games. In essence, the Nemesis System provides players with procedural storytelling in the form of conversations and dialogue. This not only creates a stronger presence of characters but opens up the possibility for branching narratives. It was a well-received feature in the Middle-earth games, so we’re excited to see how it plays out in this title.

“The stories our players share inspire us every day, and we are honored to take players on a unique personal journey, driven by the values embodied in Wonder Woman,” said David Hewitt, Vice President and Studio Head at Monolith Productions. “The Nemesis System raised the bar for player-driven storytelling and we’re excited to push the open-world genre forward, combining cutting-edge action with inventive narratives to create a Wonder Woman game everyone will want to play.”

Development

In terms of development, Wonder Woman: The Game is being produced by WB Games and developed by Monolith Productions. Considering the original announcement was made just over two years ago, we speculate that the game has been in development for at least three years if not more. While this may lead you to believe that the games nearing completion, other evidence suggests otherwise.

Monolith Productions has been advertising job openings for the new Wonder Women game on Twitter for the past year and a half, with some listings as recent as a couple of months ago. Given this, we anticipate that the game is a little behind schedule, as new roles on production are only now being filled. As a result, it’s difficult to say where Monolith Productions is at in terms of development. But, you can have faith that the game is definitely in the works.

Trailer

Wonder Woman - Official Game Announcement Teaser

So far, all we have for Wonder Woman: The Game is its cinematic trailer. There’s not much to take away from it, aside from the narrator saying, “A new threat comes to our shores, and I must call you home,” which provides some very subtle hints into the game’s plot. Nonetheless, for a cinematic trailer, it did its job of getting us excited.

Release Date, Platforms & Editions

Unfortunately, Monolith Productions has yet to set a release date for Wonder Woman: The Game. Not even a tentative release window for that matter. However, we’d speculate that the game will land on our screens sometime in 2024, possibly even later. At the same time, we have no idea which platforms the game will be released on. We’re just hoping it’s not exclusive and will be available on all platforms. However, we’re almost certain it won’t be available on PS4 or Xbox One. That’s because those consoles will most likely be obsolete by the time this game is released.

Given everything else we know little about, it’s too early to talk about game editions. Other than that, stay tuned to Gaming.net as we’ll be sure to provide any updates and news on Wonder Woman: The Game when it sheds.
