Turnip Boy Steals the Mail: Everything We Know

It’s been two occasions so far that Snoozy Kazoo’s adorable little turnip has been naughty. Committing tax evasion wasn’t enough. He had to go and rob the Botanical Bank, too. Now, he’s onto his third gig: stealing the mail. But interestingly, the series is taking us back in time: stealing the mail was apparently Turnip Boy’s first felony.

But that’s not the only surprising change. The first game incorporated hack-and-slash combat. The second involved gunplay shootouts against security guards and cops. Now, we’re embarking on a new gameplay system, altogether, a runner game no less. We’re already gathering core details about the story and gameplay you can look forward to, all highlighted in the Everything We Know About Turnip Boy Steals the Mail article below.

What is Turnip Boy Steals the Mail?

Turnip Boy Steals the Mail: Everything We Know

Turnip Boy Steals the Mail is an upcoming runner game, the third entry in the Turnip Boy series. It surprisingly takes a different turn in its gameplay, getting rid of combat in favor of a runner mode. It doesn’t mean Turnip Boy won’t still be committing crimes. This time, the adorable turnip is adding to his list of petty crimes, stealing the mail.

Steam describes Turnip Boy Steals the Mail as a spinoff mail-nabbing runner game. It reveals that you’ll be running through landscapes littered with different packages. Moreover, you’ll be unlocking new playstyles that enable you to unlock higher scores and draw closer to bursting Veggieville’s latest conspiracy wide open.

Story

MAIL BOX

Turnip Boy Steals the Mail dials back in time to when Turnip Boy was beginning his crime career. He started off stealing the mail from innocent citizens. You’re to help him steal mail and get rich quick. However, the story takes a turn for the worse when Turnip Boy steals a package he shouldn’t have.

Contrary to what you might expect, the story mode in Turnip Boy Steals the Mail seems pretty deep. You encounter new wacky friends who you can team up with. You have a crappy, spray-painted mail truck that hauls your new crew around familiar environments.

But the core gameplay has you dashing through varying landscapes and stealing mail from the side of the road to hit higher scores and progress through the story.

Gameplay

A few things to get out of the way about Turnip Boy Steals the Mail’s gameplay. Firstly, it’s a single-player game. Next, it’s that it’s a side-scrolling platformer. You’ll unlock different playstyles that help you to survive for as long as possible in an infinite runner mode.

Below, we’ve highlighted the main features you can look forward to.

  • You’ll dash across the Turnip Boy universe in a fast-paced, side-scrolling 2D runner platforming game.
  • Complete two modes: story and infinite runner mode.
  • Unlock lots of fashion styles, ranging from cat ears to mailboxes in skulls and bald heads.
  • Explore both new and familiar Turnip Boy 2D landscapes.
  • Earn badges that you can mix and match to unlock different playstyles
  • Encounter a mysterious goth cake.

Development

Turnip Boy Steals the Mail: Everything We Know

Snoozy Kanoo is still taking the reins on the development of the upcoming Turnip Boy Steals the Mail. So far, there have been two Turnip Boy games: Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion (2021) and Turnip Boy Robs a Bank (2024). Graffiti Games published both the first and second Turnip Boy games. However, Snoozy Kazoo will be publishing the third game.

Moving from a top-down perspective to side-scrolling is a major feat on its own. It’s definitely welcome for Snoozy Kazoo to be broadening the scope of the series rather than sticking to one lane. Yet, experimenting can come with its challenges. In the previous games, the combat struggled to pack a punch. It felt floaty, and the playthrough, short.

Can Snoozy Kazoo manage to crack a new side-scrolling platforming genre? Even when it’s a new genre, it’ll be grand to see Turnip Boy adopt new tools and abilities. It’ll be grand to see some sort of advancement in gameplay, but also in the art style and worldbuilding. Even though Turnip Boy Steals the Mail is a prequel in the series, I hope Snoozy Kazoo is still aiming higher, be it offering more content, lore, environments, etc.

Trailer

Turnip Boy Steals the Mail Announcement Trailer

Turnip Boy Steals the Mail is pretty much the same game as its predecessor. The cartoony theme and fun music remain, as the announcement trailer confirms. However, rather than a top-down action-adventure, you’ll be playing a side-scrolling platformer. Despite the major shift in gameplay, the core of the series remains. That good old storyline of committing crimes in a vegetable world persists.

In the trailer, you see Turnip Boy jumping out of a wacky delivery van to presumably deliver mail in familiar environments from the Turnip Boy universe. However, you soon discover that Turnip Boy has been stealing the mail. Why, you ask? For fun? To make money? Does it matter, really? It gets more interesting when he’s chatting with a goofy chocolate cake, saying she’s the getaway driver. It seems you’ve made a deal with her and failed to fulfill your end.

Just from this simple chat, it’s clear Turnip Boy Steals the Mail intends to retain its humor. Yet the gameplay itself is so different. You steal packages, and the number of items collected is highlighted on the screen. The pace seems fast, with varying playstyles and obstacles up ahead. Backgrounds change, too, among many more exciting features to look forward to.
