Tony Hawk’s Underground 1 + 2 Remastered — Everything We Know

With both Activision and Iron Galaxy finally deciding to lift the veil on Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 and effectively complete the Pro Skater circle, it seems only natural that the next step for the multi-genre publisher and its offspring would ultimately lead towards another two-piece series — Tony Hawk’s Underground, which technically serves as the follow-up saga for the IP. It’s a given, at this point, seeing as the lion’s share of the global fan base has verbalized their desire to witness more of their adolescent memories reborn for a new generation. And, let’s be honest, what better way to rekindle those former flames than to bring the World Destruction Tour to a modernized skate park on consoles and PC? It’s on everybody’s mind, and yet, sadly, that same question remains: When will Activision make the call to rebuild Tony Hawk’s Underground Remastered from the asphalt up?
Naturally, the folks over at Iron Galaxy have their work cut out for them, what with Pro Skater 3 + 4 not just being a simple rehash of the original series, but rather, a full-fledged revival with a few additional bells, whistles, and, from what we’ve heard, a brand-new water park level for returning players to soak up. And then there are the other notable modifications—licenses for soundtracks, returning cast members’ reworked recordings, and the addition of cleaner, less janky mechanics that can support modern hardware. Alas, a lot of these things are already in the bag, as made evident by the game’s July 11, 2025 launch date. To this end, it is becoming increasingly clear that, while not entirely concrete yet, the Underground saga could be the next in line to receive the same treatment. That is, of course, provided that Pro Skater 3 + 4 exceeds its market cap.
When Will Tony Hawk’s Underground Remastered Release?
As with any remaster or remake, everything that goes into the production process can and often does take a lot of time. And, regrettably, this applies to most, if not all ex-generation titles — particularly those that originally featured things like licensed soundtracks, outdated voiceovers, and other time-appropriate bits and pieces that, while fitting for the time, would require a lot of technical polish in order to be able to resonate with modern standards. Simply put, if Underground was to make a striking return, then the studio behind it would naturally have to onboard and rectify a lot of these burdens before being able to recreate a faithful adaption of the source — again, proving to be a costly and timely process.
Given the amount of traction both Pro Skater 1 + 2 and Pro Skater 3 + 4 have pulled since their initial announcements, it seems likely that Activision will shift its focus over to the next batch of games in the series in due course. As for when Underground will launch as a remastered collection (if it is a to be a two-piece and not two separate releases) is anybody’s guess at this point. However, with there being a five-year gap between Pro Skater 1 + 2 and 3 + 4, it seems as though a 2030 launch wouldn’t be entirely out of the realm of possibility at this moment in time. That is, of course, unless Activision has already begun construction on the title, in which case it could arrive as soon as 2027.
Which Platforms Will Underground Be on?
With the next generation of consoles on the horizon, it could be that the Tony Hawk’s Underground remake comes as a launch title for both Xbox and PlayStation. This isn’t to say that it won’t launch on current-gen platforms, mind you; Pro Skater 3 + 4 is expected to release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in addition to its native PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions, which leads us to believe that Underground will also make enough room to allow users on both generations of consoles to experience the best of both worlds.
Of course, the original Underground series also launched on Nintendo GameCube, so it’s likely that the unwritten Underground chapters will also touch down on Nintendo Switch, too. And as for PC, well — that’s a given at this point; those on PC can expect to see their fair share of the World Destruction Tour and the infamous feud with Eric Sparrow all the same.
When Will Activision Announce Tony Hawk’s Underground Remastered?
Activision isn’t exactly short on things to do, and even though the demand for Tony Hawk’s Underground is stronger than ever, this isn’t to say that it will be on the top of their to-do list. It’s like Bully, in a way; Rockstar Games has acknowledged the fact that fans have been wanting to see a sequel for it for years, but have little intention of actually making it, let alone muster enough interest to warrant a simple remake. So, while Tony Hawk’s Underground 1 + 2 is more than likely on their list, it’s hard to imagine that it will be stealing the spotlight from a lot of other famous IP under their belts. Will it sell? Absolutely. But so will another entry in the Call of Duty series — so it’s merely the case of balancing out the benefits that come with both, and then acting on them accordingly.
