The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has far exceeded expectations for the sequel to Breath of the Wild. It's a much bigger, better, and busier sequel that any fan of the Zelda franchise and adventure games as a whole should take the time to explore. 

Admittedly, newcomers to the franchise may have a more difficult time learning the ropes. Additionally, those who’ve played the predecessors will realize that Tears of the Kingdom introduces new skills and abilities to master.

5. The Power of the Fuse

Fuse is a new ability introduced in Tears of the Kingdom that lets you fuse your weapon or gear with nearly all other materials found in your surroundings. The idea is to fuse your weapon or armor with an item that enhances it. For instance, if you fuse a staff with a massive boulder, you can make a hammer.  

While Fuse depends largely on your creativity, you can still take advantage of it by keeping an eye out for the useful materials you’ll find. Here’s a quick guide to help guide you.

• Monster Drops

Each time you defeat an enemy, there’s a high likelihood they will drop a useful fusion material. For example, enemies drop claws, horns, toenails, tails, and other body parts. 

If you fuse your weapon with these items, you can increase its attack power and, consequently, its damage output. You'll also need to assess the monster part you want to fuse with and how it can help you. Like a tail fused with a spear can act as a whip for long-range attacks.Best Tips for 

• Boulders and rocks

Boulders and rocks are useful for making hammers. Simply fuse them with a stick and use it to deal extra damage or even break other rocks and mines.

• Materials with Elemental Properties

Most of the monsters are susceptible to elemental damage. So, definitely keep an eye out for materials with elemental properties to fuse to your weapon, specifically arrows.

Tears of the Kingdom has strategically removed elemental arrows to push you toward fusing weapons with elemental materials. These items are usually in the form of ice/shock/fire fruit and jelly.

4. Four Legs is Better Than Two

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom features a vast, open world. Covering larger distances on foot will take so much time. Fortunately, there’s the option of mounting a horse.

Finding a horse is so important in the early parts of the game. And they’re not difficult to find. Simply keep an eye out for horses grazing in the fields. If you spot one, don’t spook them. Use stealth to creep close to one, press ‘A’ to mount them, and ‘L’ to gallop away.

If you’re in the Depths, there’s a horse you can mount there too, except it’s a skeleton horse. It’ll come in handy, especially when you’re dealing with gloomy weather. The skeleton horse will help you ride through them, unharmed. Furthermore, horses help guide you. They always stick to the road unless you command them to wander away.

3. Zonai Devices Hold the Key to Building

Gathering resources and crafting are crucial to not only traversing Hyrule but also fighting off monsters. And one of the essential items you’ll need to build is called a Zonai device. 

Zonai devices are an assortment of items and tools powered by your Energy Cell. They’re found on the Sky Islands or in a Zonai Machine. Zonai devices from a Zonai Machine come at a price, in exchange for your Zonai Charges. 

Thanks to the ancient Zonai, you can have access to their technological devices, which include balloons, batteries, big wheels, carts, flame emitters, hydrants, rockets, gliders, steering sticks, and more. 

Using Zonai devices, you can build a variety of vehicles or create mega weapons using Fuse. It’s a pretty neat feature that wasn’t available in previous games. So, definitely, use them wisely and to the maximum of their ability.

2. Take to the Skies Often

The ancient Zonai was an interesting civilization that built technological wonders and left them untouched in the Skies. So, now all their Zonai devices are up for grabs. 

Besides Zonai devices, the Sky Islands offer more advantages. They have shrines that have puzzles that help you learn the basics of crafting. Here, you’re free to use trial and error to build essential things like fan-powered rafts. You can also test your special abilities, like Ultrahand and Fuse. Once you solve a puzzle or successfully build something, it induces such satisfaction that you’ll want to do it over and over again.

Additionally, Sky Islands have chests that can have all sorts of goodies, including treasure maps and armor sets. In short, it’s the perfect place to loot and prepare for battle.

1. There’s no Hurry in Hyrule

Hyrule has so much to offer. And now, there’s an underground open world nearly as vast as the surface world that you’ll need to venture into as part of the main story. If you start to feel overwhelmed or beat yourself up for sinking so many hours yet hardly feeling anywhere close to completing the game, stop worrying. 

Tears of the Kingdom is a bigger open world than the previous games, which took pride in teasing you to explore every inch of it. The game will never punish you for choosing to go your own way or play the game at your own pace. When you aren’t in a hurry to get off the Depths or the Sky Islands, that’s when you make even more discoveries and make the most of your time here.
