Split Fiction: Everything We Know
How many Josef Fares games have you played? Off the top of my head, there’s Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, It Takes Two, and A Way Out. Is there another? I mean, it’s the way of life now, it seems, for Hazelight Studios to develop co-op adventures. And my God, are the co-op adventures they make so damn good. But don’t take my word for it. There’s a trailer out now that you can take full advantage of preparing yourself adequately for launch with nearly all of the vital story and gameplay elements you need to know. Better still, you can read through to the end of our Split Fiction: Everything We Know article to know all you can expect from the final game.
What is Split Fiction?

Split Fiction is an upcoming co-op action adventure from the creators of It Takes Two. While the game has only recently made its world premiere, it’ll be arriving way sooner than you think. Get ready to jump out of your comfort zone in what the game’s Steam page promises will be a mind-blowing ride. You’ll explore not only a sci-fi world but also a fantasy one, jumping from one to the other with ease.
While It Takes Two was quite exceptional, which, by the way, won Game of the Year in 2021, Hazelight Studios intends to push the boundaries of its capabilities even further than ever before.
Story

Follow Mio and Zoe, both writers specializing in sci-fi and fantasy, respectively. They sign up for a simulation program that promises to bring to life the stories they write. However, a mishap leads to them getting trapped in a shady simulation that intertwines the sci-fi and fantasy worlds. Worse? The simulation program seems hellbent on stealing their creative ideas.
So, although strangers, Mio and Zoe have to work together to break out of the program. During your adventures, you’ll face plenty of risks and challenges, including a breach in your memories. However, by working together in an online co-op, you just might stand a chance.
Gameplay

While the task at hand is a treacherous one, Split Fiction will give you varying skills and abilities. These will be applied to the challenges you face skillfully and tactfully. Your adventure will revolve around jumping from the sci-fi world into the fantasy one as you try to navigate an unfamiliar yet intriguing world. And while you seek freedom, you’ll form a strong bond that blooms into an unexpected friendship.
According to Steam, Split Fiction plans to be a unique action adventure that will grip your attention through to the end of the game. You’ll stumble onto surprising twists and turns. At one point, you can be taming a wild dragon and, at the other, going head-to-head against cyberninjas. There are far more exciting
oments and events to look forward to, like formidable trolls, viable enemies, and dodging cars that a robot parking attendant throws at you. You can already tell that the upcoming game is going to be strange but deliciously wild, but at the heart of it all, it is designed to be enjoyed with a buddy in tow.
Split Fiction will be an online co-op action adventure. So, it’s going to take two to tango, with the option of enjoying the benefits of a Friend’s Pass. The Friend’s Pass will allow one player to buy the game and be able to play with another player at no extra cost. Moreover, online multiplayer will include split-screen co-op for the most intimate gaming sessions as well as cross-platform multiplayer to seamlessly team up with any player worldwide.
Here’s the summary of the key features you can expect in Split Fiction.
Key Features
- Co-op adventure: You’ll team up with a friend in split-screen mode. This will demand working together as you cultivate precise timing and pull through intense challenges.
- Whopping variety: Every level you’ll discover intends to introduce new abilities. That way, your adventure remains constantly refreshing. They will draw inspiration from fantasy and sci-fi worlds, from dancing with monkeys to fighting evil cats. You’ll also experience several traversal mechanics, from riding sandsharks to hopping onto gravity bikes. You can look forward to a balance of puzzles, platforming, and more.
- Unexpected friendship: While Mio and Zoe start as strangers who don’t particularly like each other, they cultivate an unexpected friendship by navigating surprising twists and exploring their own wild imaginations.
Development

Hazelight Studios, in partnership with Electronic Arts, will be bringing to you Split Fiction sometime soon. The new game already seems to be striving to reach new heights, whether visually or gameplay-wise. It Takes Two certainly didn’t break new ground graphically. However, the upcoming game already looks stunning, and so does its gameplay, which certainly juggles plenty of more captivating ideas.
Trailer
Check out Split Fiction’s world premiere trailer aired at The Game Awards 2024 event. It’s quite a detailed trailer narrated by Josef Fares himself. But perhaps the most exciting detail is the ridable pigs who use farts to launch themselves into the air. I mean, is there anything more addictingly comical?
