Rockstar Insider Claims Grand Theft Auto IV Won’t Be Remastered

Grand Theft Auto IV won’t be getting a remaster at any point in the near future. At least, that’s according to a reputable Rockstar insider who claims the developer is done with resurrecting old IPs.

For many, the release of the Grand Theft Auto Definitive Trilogy was the beginning of a long and healthy line of Rockstar remakes. As it turned out, however, the remastered trilogy was rifled with glitches and game-breaking transitions. Of course, this led to Grove Street Games becoming the subject of endless online abuse and bitter feedback. And now, some insiders are claiming the gaming giant will point-blank refuse to resurrect its library of old IPs. Specifically, Grand Theft Auto IV, and Red Dead Redemption.

According to Tez2, plans to rebuild the aforementioned games were already on the table. However, after the backlash from the god-awful Definitive Trilogy, the ideas were eventually scrapped. Although Rockstar has yet to confirm this, it does seem like the most likely reason for the projects to receive the cold shoulder.

Still…

Let it be said that Grand Theft Auto IV was a revolutionary concept for its time, as well as the cornerstone of double ex-gen hardware. And so, for many, seeing a remaster would be a dream come true. But, given the fact that Grove Street Games absolutely butchered the trilogy, it only makes sense that the devs would want to recover from the second-hand embarrassment.

Anyway, take this with a hint of salt. While Tez2 has spilt the beans on some pretty solid data in the past, it doesn’t for a second mean Grand Theft Auto IV will never receive the TLC it so rightfully deserves. It’s a waiting game, therefore all we can really do, surprise surprise, is wait.

So, what’s your take? Do you think Rockstar will ever resurrect Niko Bellic and friends for next-gen hardware? Let us know over on our socials here or down in the comments below.
