Park Beyond: Everything We Know

Updated on

Limbic Entertainment and Bandai Namco have removed the cloak to reveal Park Beyond, an upcoming theme park tycoon-like game that will put you, the thrill-seeking architect, in charge of not only constructing an award-winning resort, but managing its every tiny asset. Sound like your ideal cup of tea? You're in luck, as it's heading to consoles and PC on June 16, 2023.

Anyway, before you go gallivanting about in the wide-open world of Park Beyond, it's probably best you brush up on its key details. Speaking of which, here's everything both Limbic and Bandai have revealed on the game since making the formal announcement a couple of years back. Park Beyond: what is it, and why should you be gearing up to play it later this year?

What Is Park Beyond?

Park Beyond is an upcoming theme park and management simulation game by Limbic Entertainment, a studio best known for Tropico 6, and Might & Magic. The latest venture, much like a lot of DIY theme park tycoon games, instructs you to build, manage, and oversee the day-to-day agenda of a booming resort—a world in which you, along with a team of friends, will develop from scratch.

In Limbic Entertainment's words: “Take the role of a newly-hired visionary architect for a struggling company and create mind-twisting theme parks. You can create the rides you have always dreamed about but that couldn’t exist in real life. Team up with Phil, the enthusiastic park veteran, Izzy, the stern but friendly executive, and a host of other colorful and passionate characters, to build a successful and profitable park company.”

“The accessible controls and a story-driven campaign mode will help you learn the ropes of park management and build increasingly crazy rides and modular coasters,” the blurb concludes.

Story

The premise is simple: you play an architect—a visionary of sorts—who's been hired to revive a struggling resort that's been starved both financially and innovatively. As a fresh pair of eyes, you will work your way through a selection of failing biomes and, with the aid of your team, restore the fractured elements and transform a would-be derelict park into a fully functioning nexus of world-class family resorts.

Of course, as with any simulation game that employs a sandbox mode, Park Beyond lets you live out your wildest dreams by handing you the tools to create without limits. Outside of the general custom mode, you'll also find a story mode, which will see you ascend from working with small amusement parks to awe-inspiring havens for elite tourists. With that, you can expect plenty of researching, upgrading, and implementing new ideas to help your career blossom into something not only profitable, but inspiring enough to attract new personnel and park goers.

Gameplay

If you've poured a considerable amount of time into games like RollerCoaster Tycoon or Planet Coaster, then you'll no doubt already have a general idea of how Park Beyond will function. And if not, then one can only describe it as being an open-world sandbox game with a huge variety of customization and in-depth management elements. In a simple “build it, and they will come” format, players are tasked with turning grass roots in an open plot of land into a full-fledged theme park resort fit for the common adrenaline junkie.

So, how does Park Beyond compare to the likes of Planet Coaster in terms of gameplay? Well, according to Limbic Entertainment, the upcoming suite will let you “create the park of your dreams without being held back by gravity!” Quite the claim, for sure, and yet one that just so happens to intrigue us all the same.

Development

Limbic Entertainment first lifted the veil on the project back in 2021, at which point it showcased an announcement trailer over on its social feed. Going by the preview, the idea was to bring the limit-breaking sandbox title to consoles and PC by 2023. It was only in March 2023 that a June 16 release date was stapled to it.

“Park Beyond is driven by the idea of a fresh take on theme park games, proposing a satisfactory toolbox for the players to build their park, a deep management aspect to brain tease and challenge players, an enjoyable campaign, and the craziness of impossification,” Limbic Entertainment technical director Mohamed Hafez told Unreal Engine. “Along the development journey, we did not doubt Park Beyond for a moment. From the smallest decoration assets to sophisticated large-scale rides and their impossible versions, our team of creative designers and artists always surprised everyone with their creations.”

Park Beyond will be coming to Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam on June 16, 2023. Does this mean it could technically come to Game Pass or PlayStation Plus? In short, yes.
