Avatar photo

In the spirit of keeping up with upcoming games, console and mobile games alike, we’ve caught wind of Medabots Survivors, you know, from the popular Medabots robot RPG series. While the franchise is Japanese, gamers worldwide are keeping a close eye on it, including on the upcoming title. Also, the franchise is a mobile robot-building series. So, you might want to readjust your expectations on the gacha front. Anyway, all speculations aside, here’s everything we know about Medabots Survivors so far.

What is Medabots Survivors?

Medabots Survivors is an upcoming survival action game. It’ll be a part of the Medabots series, though, oddly enough, it will be venturing into the survival action genre for the first time. Previous games in the series have been 2D top-down RPGs, fighting games, battle RPGs, card games, and more. These include everything from main titles to spin-offs and even collections. In total, there have been 16 games released so far.

Story

Medabots Survivors: Everything We Know

There doesn’t seem to be a profound story for Medabots Survivors. Basically, what you do is recruit a bunch of Medabots, which are mini robots, each having unique skills and abilities. Your job is to control your chosen medabot, referred to in Japan as medarot, as they head into battle against hordes of enemies. Being a survival action game, you’ll need to survive a seemingly endless wave of foes.

If you’ve played any of the games in the Medabots series before, then you’ll be happy to know some of the fan-favorite Medabots from the series will make it to the new game. However, you can also look forward to some new additions that will appear in the series for the first time.

One thing’s for sure: there will be a protagonist. It’ll be a new Medabot whose design hails from the artistry of Medabots S main illustrator, tyuga. Some of the other designs you can look forward to are Chang’e-inspired and dark knight-inspired from Mine Yoshizaki and K-SUWABE, respectively.

Gameplay

Fighting endless waves of enemies can sound intense. But Medabots Survivors promises to give you simple controls that won’t bite your head off. However, you must be keen beyond the actual gameplay, especially when choosing which medabot to take into battle. Seeing as the robots have unique skills and abilities, your choice of medabot will heavily influence how well you do on the battlefield. There’s also an element of resource management as you don’t exactly have a wealth of medabots at your disposal. You have to wisely choose from a limited pool.

In total, Medabots Survivors will have 30+ medabots you can control. These are just the ones that will be playable from Day One. To defeat enemies, you’ll have a variety of tools at your disposal. You can use missiles to take down foes. There’ll also be AoE attacks, and close-quarters combat you can use on enemies who are close by. Meanwhile, you can set traps that slow down enemies, giving you more time to survive.

As the game’s store page says, look forward to “thrilling battles with dramatic turnarounds.” Since some medabots will be from previous games, they may come with the skills and abilities they’ve always had. Although Imagineer says to keep an eye out for future updates on that, as well as the new medabots that will be added in the future designed by popular illustrators.

Development

Medabots Survivors

Developer Imagineer is at the forefront of creating Medabots Survivors for the gaming community. They have launched a teaser trailer and official website and put out a pre-registration round on the App Store and Google Play Store. So, the progress in development seems to be good. Chief of the progress made you can follow are the character designs, which have been posted on the website. You have beetle-like medabots of the old and new generation, dark knight-inspired designs, and more.

The designs look elegant and flawless and translate well in the trailer video below. The only gripe is that the game is a Japan-exclusive title. All roads seem to point at a Japan-only release, with the trailer, website, and social media channels in Japanese. It’d be nice if there were a global release to open up the title to all gamers interested in wiping out waves of robot enemies.

It’s out. The trailer for Medabots Survivors is entirely electric, giving you a sneak peek into the character designs and gameplay you can expect in the final game. The video is, unfortunately, in Japanese, including the video description. However, feel free to watch it in the video embedded above.

Release Date, Platforms, & Editions

Medabots Survivors: Everything We Know

Medabots Survivors has set its course for February 2025, which is not too long from now. However, keep in mind that the game will be released exclusively in Japan, with unclear confirmation of whether a global release will come much later. Only three games in the Medabots series have been released outside of Japan. So, there’s a slim chance the new title could make it to the West. Still, Imagineer has confirmed that the game will launch on both iOS and Android platforms. Moreover, the game can be downloaded from the iOS app store and the Google Play store for Android devices.

Additionally, Imagineer plans for the game to be a free-to-play title. And if you’re wondering whether this means it’ll have microtransactions, the answer is yes. The developer confirms that the game will have in-app purchases, though, hopefully, not too rampant to veer on the edge of annoying. Editions-wise, we’ll have to wait for further updates confirming whether there’ll be any. In the meantime, you can follow the official social handle here to keep track of new updates as they come. You can also pre-register as early as now on App Store or Google Play. Pre-registering has its benefits, with the developer promising Pepper Cat, Key Turtle, and Cyan Dog medarot gifts at launch, although they will depend on the number of preorders made.
