Life Is Strange: Double Exposure: “What Went Wrong?”

Square Enix has initiated a second round of layoffs in light of Deck Nine Studios’ Life Is Strange: Double Exposure’s relatively low sales figures and below-the-bar review scores.
If you’re familiar with Square Enix’s traditional work ethic, then you’ll know that, should anything (and we mean anything) fall below the threshold of being absolutely perfect, things can be, to some worrying extent, a problem for the publisher. In the case of Life Is Strange, it was the series’ latest revival, Double Exposure, that caught the gaming giant’s attention, primarily due to the fact that, aside from it receiving a lot of praise for its inclusion of several legacy characters and its glossy visuals, there just wasn’t enough pizzazz to keep its audience hooked for the duration of its story. And it’s because of its below-the-belt reception that both Deck Nine Studios and Square Enix have now collectively launched a public expedition to find out what actually went wrong with the long-awaited sequel.
“What Went Wrong?”
In an attempt to make sense of the game’s two-sided debut, publisher Square Enix has posted a fifteen-minute questionnaire asking players about their opinions on several of Double Exposure’s features—a survey that ultimately leads to that all-important question of whether or not the series should continue to explore additional opportunities in future sequels. Of course, these responses are entirely anonymous, so we can’t exactly comment further on this, but the fact that SE are actively seeking clarification from its fan base does unfortunately lead us to believe that neither party are particularly happy about the outcome.
In spite of everything that we’ve just touched base on, Life Is Strange continues to be one of the best IPs in Square Enix’s experimental portfolio, so to say that it’s future is as bleak as a colorless Polaroid wouldn’t be entirely fair. If, however, you yourself believe that the series could do with some extra TLC, then be sure to submit your feedback to the creators as soon as possible.
