With House Flipper releasing in 2018, it makes some sense that developer Empyrean would see it fit to launch a remaster. And as is the norm with remasters, House Flipper Remastered plans to make the original a better and smoother experience.

What is House Flipper?

House Flipper is a single-player simulation game about either building houses from scratch or buying and renovating old, derelict houses. Despite the perceived challenge, the playthrough leans more on a cozy, relaxing experience. 

But beyond a stress-relieving playthrough, the gameplay encourages creativity and strategy in constructing, fixing, and decorating the best houses on the block. Your final product will then go on the market and, hopefully, sell at a big profit to beat the game.

Developer Empyrean, in collaboration with publishers Frozen District and PlayWay, worked on the project. They released the game in May 2018, for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, macOS, and PC platforms. 

What is House Flipper Remastered?

It’s been seven years since the original House Flipper hit the shelves. Developer Empyrean used the Unity engine on the project before releasing it on last-gen consoles. Now, developer Frozen Way and publishers Frozen Way and Frozen District are working on a remastered version, slated to launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC platforms. 

Titled House Flipper Remastered Collection, fans of the original are already hyped about the remaster. While Frozen Way has only just announced the game, they’ve confirmed the release date for December 31, 2025. Moreover, they confirm that the remaster will retain the original content. So, you can look forward to the same, addicting cleaning, painting, and house-building playthrough. 

House Flipper Remastered intends to take a step further, though. It plans to feature a one-package deal that contains both the base game and all DLCs, including the HGTV and Apocalypse DLCs. Moreover, it promises better graphics that make use of modern lighting and a cleaner, more intuitive UI. 

As much as you’ll be playing the original game, it won’t quite look and feel the same. Frozen Way plans to reimagine the original game, thus delivering a fresh playthrough. One of the ways they will breathe new life into the game is via new content from the characters to the jobs and items you can use.

Story

House Flipper doesn’t quite have a fully-fledged story. However, you do meet and interact with the residents of a town, helping them fix their houses for profit. You begin taking a job offer and getting to work, painting, installing appliances, and furnishing their house. Once ready, you receive payment for your clients. 

When you make enough money, you graduate to buy your own house to renovate and sell for a bigger payday. And on and on the cycle goes, smacking walls down, repairing broken equipment, and selling for bigger turnovers. You can upgrade your tools for a smoother and speedier renovation process and even buy and renovate your own office to run your business. 

With House Flipper Remastered, though, we’re looking at a potentially better story. Frozen Way plans to add brand-new content that includes unraveling heartwarming and emotionally charged stories. They promise new characters who’ll come with full voice acting. New, emotive stories, characters, and voice acting already sound like more than enough to elevate your narrative experience.

Gameplay

On the gameplay front, House Flipper followed a straightforward path of fixing up houses for profit. You specialize in renovating houses, taking job offers that involve cleaning, painting, installing items, putting down titles, and so on, all so you can raise the value of the house to sell at a profit. 

However, you do have leeway in the designs you choose. You can even demolish the house if you want or buy an old house once you make enough money to repair and sell for profit. By browsing through your catalog, you’ll find lots of items for the job, from wallpapers to furniture and showers. You’ll also find tools like hammers and vacuum cleaners, with the option for buying new items and equipment and upgrading them. 

As for the remaster, Frozen Way confirms they plan to add six new jobs and over 800 new items. It’ll definitely provide more content and bursts of creativity. However, Frozen Way wants to take a step further and ensure a smoother playthrough. Based on the House Flipper community’s feedback, they plan to add house export and naming options, better photo mode, tablet dark mode, and more quality-of-life changes. 

Verdict

House Flipper was already an addicting simulation game that encouraged creativity and helped relieve stress. Now, House Flipper Remastered promises to elevate the original experience, making it better, smoother, and more wholesome. Frozen Way will spearhead the development of the remaster, with the changes they plan to make being revamped visuals, full voice acting, and more, engaging content. 

We have promises like meeting new characters and unraveling new “heartwarming” stories. You can meet a coffee lover who wants the design of their house to speak to their passion. Or newlyweds looking to make an old house their cozy home. These can potentially personalize missions, resulting in a more gripping and absorbing playthrough. 

Moreover, the stories hint at “emotional twists,” which could also create a deeper, more purpose-driven playthrough. And then there are the DLCs, all in one package, that further sweetens the deal. Of course, we’ll have to play through House Flipper Remastered on December 31, 2025, when it launches, to know whether it’s truly the superior playthrough. As it stands, though, the proposed changes and brand-new content sound enticing enough. They promise a bigger and better house-building and repair experience. 

Meanwhile, the fact that the remaster will launch on current-gen consoles gives us more assurance that the remaster will offer a smoother, more fluid playthrough.
