Go Home Annie: Everything We Know

SCP, or Secure. Contain. Protect. inspired games are quickly gaining speed. Games like The Store is Closed, SCP – Containment Breach, The Sentient Box, and SCP: Secret Laboratory are carrying the torch forward, with plenty of more fan-made content out there. It’s pretty pleasant to see, and perhaps, with more streams of fan-built content tapping into SCP’s gaming potential, we may see it break through to the mainstream.
It all started with stories of the fictional secret organization, the SCP Foundation, steadfast in their mission to eradicate all artificial paranormal activity from breaking the laws of nature. Today, the SCP universe has inspired fan-made adaptations from books, comics, video games, and animated and live-action short films. Soon to join the ranks is the fascinating Go Home Annie, for which we’re breaking down everything we know about its pending release below.
What is Go Home Annie?

Go Home Annie is an upcoming twisted first-person horror adventure. The game is currently in development by Misfit Village and will be published by Nordcurrent Labs. The game will follow in the footsteps of the many SCP-inspired games before it. However, instead of working toward eradicating paranormal activity, Annie, the main lead, will be investigating a division of the SCP Foundation itself.
Story

Go Home Annie will follow an SCP Foundation low-level employee. She works for a division within the organization called the SCP Replication Division. In the game and the SCP wiki, the SCP Foundation is responsible for securing and containing paranormal activity that defies the laws of science and protects the general public from harm.
However, Annie works for a division within the foundation called the Replication Division. Here, she’s tasked with testing artificially developed anomalous entities. She does so repeatedly until she discovers a drastic flaw that uncovers the secrets behind the Replication Division and the SCP Foundation itself.
The official Steam description of Go Home Annie reads:
Why has an organization with the motto “Secure, Contain, Protect” created a division for replicating dangerous paranormal events and anomalous entities? Why are you tasked with repeatedly testing the same replicas with a seemingly never-changing outcome? You will need to take drastic actions to uncover your true purpose and alter the course of your fate.
Gameplay

Go Home Annie takes a first-person perspective approach to gameplay. It’ll infuse a twisted horror adventure for spooky lovers out there. Players will solve puzzles using existing and original paranormal activities as a base. They’ll go through levels that uncover hidden mysteries.
You’ll comb every nook and cranny of the Replication Division establishment with a fine-tooth comb. Throughout your playthrough, you’ll run into terrifying experiments and loose subjects, including spooky flamingoes and deer seen in the trailer.
Your choices will impact the outcome of the story. Meanwhile, as opposed to cutscenes taking you from place to place, you’ll instead drive across foggy, atmospheric environments beyond the facility, running into all sorts of bizarre happenings to reach your goal.
In one of the trailers, some events will require you to use your camera to uncover them. Thus, it creates the impression that not everything is as it seems.
Furthermore, there’ll be something special in store for fans of the SCP universe. The developing team has taken a step further to infuse multiple hidden gems of existing SCP Foundation lore that fans will appreciate.
As far as bringing friends along for the adventure goes, Go Home Annie seems to only cater to single-player experiences. However, since you’ll navigate multiple paths to untangle the division’s secrets while conversing with paranormal entities, there’s a high chance playing solo will be just as rewarding.
Development

Developer Misfit Village and publisher Nordcurrent Labs are working on launching Go Home Annie soon. Misfit Village, in particular, are big fans of the SCP universe, stating, “We’re big fans of the crowdsourced fiction that’s made up the SCP Foundation over the years, and we wanted to offer our own contribution in game form.”
The developing team has already released a demo, which was free to download via Steam on September 21, 2022. Reviews on the demo have been a mix of good and bad. Players have mixed reviews ranging from “one of the best story-focused SCP games I’ve played” to “completely broken demo.” Of course, demos are released to give feedback to the developing team. It allows them to head back to the garage and fix the issues that come up.
While the developing team had gone silent for about a year since the demo release, presumably busy patching Go Home Annie up to standard, they have recently released a trailer that looks beyond promising. Unfortunately, the developing team has disabled the demo in preparation for launch. They released a statement via Steam on October 3, 2023, stating:
We have changed so much since we launched the demo, from core gameplay to level and puzzle design to UI and graphics. It really makes our heads spin.
Alongside the announcement, the Go Home Annie team promises to release “even more exciting announcements very, very soon,” so stay tuned for that.
