E3 2023 Has Been Cancelled

E3 2023, a globally recognized gaming event that was scheduled to take place this coming June in Los Angeles, has been cancelled.

It's been a long time coming, what with countless gaming giants severing their ties with E3 in an attempt to stand on their own two feet, but alas, E3 2023 is no more. And understandably so, seeing as these past two years have seen firms such as Nintendo and Microsoft each branch off to host their own exclusive events. And so, E3, at least in the eyes of the booming media titans, has become expendable—a spare link in the chain, so to speak.

“This was a difficult decision because of all the effort we and our partners put toward making this event happen, but we had to do what's right for the industry and what’s right for E3,” ReedPop's Kyle Marsden-Kish shared with GameSpot. “We appreciate and understand that interested companies wouldn't have playable demos ready and that resourcing challenges made being at E3 this summer an obstacle they couldn’t overcome. For those who did commit to E3 2023, we're sorry we can’t put on the showcase you deserve and that you’ve come to expect from ReedPop’s event experiences.”

Will E3 2024 Happen?

According to a message sent to the members of the ESA (intercepted by IGN), E3 2023 “simply did not garner the sustained interest necessary to execute it in a way that would showcase the size, strength, and impact of our industry.”

So, what does this mean for the long-standing exhibition? Will it return for 2024? At this point, who knows. But if it does decide to make a comeback, then it'll have to set the bar incredibly high if it's to bring back its fan base and balance out the playing field.
