Destiny: Rising – Everything We Know

Many fans of the Destiny series have been eager for a third installment following the epic action in the first and second installments. However, while the series is getting a new game, it will be a spin-off called Destiny: Rising. The new game will share many notable similarities with the two original Destiny games. However, it will also feature several unmissable changes that will make it unique and fresh. The game’s official announcement came with detailed information about the game’s features and gameplay design. Here is our comprehensive preview of everything we know about Destiny: Rising.
What is Destiny: Rising?

Destiny: Rising is a spin-off of the Destiny series. Most notably, it is a mobile RPG shooter, the first mobile game in the series. It is set in the Destiny universe and carries over many features and aspects from the original Destiny games, including various characters, weapons, and game modes. However, as a spin-off, it also introduces various notable new features and changes, including new characters and modes. Moreover, it is set in an alternate timeline based on the original games’ stories and events.
Story

The story in Destiny: Rising unfolds many years before the events in Destiny and Destiny 2. It is set shortly after the Collapse and the Traveler’s arrival on Earth. Notably, humanity’s collapse occurred because of a yet-unknown alien invasion, and the game is set at a time when humanity is just beginning to build the Last City.
With the Earth in ruins, the Traveler uses its light to create Ghosts to seek out humanity’s fallen denizens. The Ghosts have the power to bring the denizens back to life, turning them into Lightbearers. The Lightbearers are immortals with extraordinary, unique abilities. Notably, the story runs deeper than that, and you can unravel the rest of it as you progress.
Gameplay

Destiny: Rising delivers a thrilling blend of explosive action, epic adventure, and intriguing storytelling. Notably, while players have many concerns about the mobile platform, the developers promise user-friendly controls and overall smooth gameplay.
You will spend most of your time fighting various enemies in explosive battles. The enemies come in various shapes, sizes, and types, including aliens and robots. Fortunately, you have a deadly arsenal of weapons to overcome the fiercest of enemies. Interestingly, the options include the powerful exotic weapons in the original Destiny games.
Each Lightbearer has two slots for weapons: one for Primary Weapons and another for Power Weapons. They each also have one unique relic that facilitates their two signature abilities. Relics also give players extra Super abilities and other perks, such as shields and elemental attacks.
Notably, some weapons are exclusive to certain characters. Moreover, your weapons and relics determine your playstyle. As such, fights are strategic, as your attack and defense styles depend on your weapons and abilities. Conveniently, all characters share a weapons inventory, enabling you to swap compatible weapons between different characters.
You can also enjoy a thrilling adventure in addition to the epic action. The game features a vast open world with diverse environments. You can explore the world however you see fit, especially when playing the Destination Free-Roam Exploration mode. Notably, the Destiny universe in this game feels surreal, considering the alternative timeline.
You can also enjoy an intriguing storytelling experience as you adventure and fight. The story unfolds as you edge closer to your main objective. Moreover, each playable character also has a unique background story and unique personality.
Unlike the original Destiny games, you can play various characters in Destiny: Rising. They include characters from the original Destiny games, such as Kabr, Ikora Rey, and Iron Lord Jolder. The game also introduces a few new characters. Interestingly, you can customize your characters’ gender and overall appearance to suit your tastes.
You can play Destiny: Rising solo via various PvE modes. Interestingly, the PvE mode includes various modes, including classic modes carried over from the original Destiny games and new modes. They include classic Campaign Missions, Strike Missions, Raid Missions, and Destination Free-Roam Exploration. New PvE modes include Legacy, Morgran’s Prey, and more.
Alternatively, you can play with friends via the game’s PvP modes. Interestingly, the PvP modes support both cooperative and competitive multiplayer gaming. As such, you can play alongside your friends or against them.

While Destiny and Destiny 2 were developed and published by Bungie, Destiny: Rising is developed by NetEase Games. NetEase, a China-based developer, partnered with Bungie after making a $100 million investment into the latter in 2018. As a partner, NetEase has the necessary licensing and authorization from Bungie to develop a unique storyline and overall vision for its new game.
