MindsEye‘s trailer may have insinuated an open-world action RPG, much like Grand Theft Auto. However, the final game has made it clear that it’s far from anything GTA. You embark on a linear mission to track down the scientist who drilled a neural implant in your skull. And the more secrets you discover, the more profound the story grows, leading up to debates between the use of AI in the military and how it affects the socioeconomic class.

But the execution of MindsEye’s gameplay has left a lot to be desired. The storytelling lacks intrigue or memorability. Meanwhile, the exploration is limited to just your car, with little else to do in between driving to your next mission. And the combat, well, that’s going to have to go back in the oven. Admittedly, the final product has been hugely disappointing. Thus, our compilation of the best games like MindsEye that should hopefully provide a better alternative. 

10. Until Dawn

Until Dawn may not be the obvious choice for a MindsEye alternative. It’s, after all, a slasher horror that aims to chill you to the core. At first, Cyberpunk 2077 was a hot mess. But the developers went back to the drawing board and gave us one of the most unforgettable open-world RPG experiences. It delivers the freedom and tension you might have hoped for from MindsEye, embarking on an unforgettable spy thriller.   

You aren’t just restricted to the story campaign, but can forge your own path in the terrifying megalopolis of Night City. You’re a cyberpunk mercenary intent on leaving your mark on a world run by power, glamor, and body modification.

8. The Last of Us Part I

If MindsEye’s focus was on telling an emotionally-provoking story, then they could have learned a thing or two from The Last of Us Part I. It takes place in the future, too, where a disease outbreak has ravaged the world, and the survivors have turned against one another. 

In the chaos of it all, you somehow manage to forge an unexpected foster father-daughter relationship, one that wraps up in one of the most heartbreaking endings in gaming history.

7.  Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2

The Warhammer 40,000 series has always been the best at military grandeur, from the massive scale of battles to the hordes of different enemy species and your very own superhuman-abled machine. Space Marine 2 is just another of a bigger and better take on executing the Emperor’s desire for dominance. 

You’ll go up against swarms of Tyranids, controlling a Space Marine, whose power and abilities are unmatched.

6. Dying Light

The best games like MindsEye include Dying Light. It’s a post-apocalyptic zombie apocalypse game that allows you and three friends to team up against the infected. MindsEye doesn’t provide a co-op mode. Meanwhile, Dying Light has been amassing a loyal following of gamers looking to survive the zombie virus epidemic together.

5. Detroit: Become Human

In terms of a futuristic take on a world overrun by rogue AI and robots, Detroit: Become Human is your best bet. “Machines have become more intelligent than humans,” reads the blurb.
