10 Best Creative Horror Islands on Fortnite (January 2026)
Among the tens of thousands of creative islands on Fortnite are horror-themed maps. Though not all of them are effortlessly terrifying. The game bans realistic gore, but that doesn’t mean that you won’t be sweating rocks playing through some of the horror maps on Fortnite.
The best ones capitalize on creating a suspenseful atmosphere, full of ambient sounds and immersive detail. They keep you busy with puzzles and curious exploration, and overall sustain a creepy vibe. We’ve compiled the best creative horror islands on Fortnite this month. These are the top absolute must-plays.
10. Grinch (6110-2563-2086 by wewee)

With the new year successfully upon us, I think it’s safe to say the green-fur Grinch didn’t get away with ruining Christmas. Still, if the holiday cheer is clinging on too strongly, feel free to check out the Grinch Fortnite map and reminisce.
The developer promises a story you’ve never seen before, complete with real voice-overs. You’ll be busy preparing for Christmas, controlling the elves to do your bidding, when in comes the Grinch holding all the grudge and hellbent on stealing every jolly left of Christmas.
9. Escape It Clown (2424-6156-3067 by oneslayer)

The terrifying clown who eats kids is back: don’t be fooled and go into the sewers. But if you do feel a little brazen, then by all means, test how far you can get before Pennywise gets you. The story is an original one, with an interesting twist.
It plays around with fictional ideas that come to life and start to haunt you. All along, Escape It Clown has one thing it insists on, well, two things: escape and get back to reality.
8. MC Jackson Horror 5.0 (8552-8014-0910 by corbeau)

Fine, I’ll admit it. Thriller’s music video still makes my stomach turn. I just can’t sit through the whole thing. If you’re like me, I bet MC Jackson Horror 5.0 will be exactly what the doctor ordered.
Corbeau has been really creative with this one, mostly because it’s just not what you’d expect. There are some pretty scary moments here, but also hilarious ones that will have you bursting out a few laughs.
7. Backrooms: Asylum (2029-0949-3293 by niryannl)

Backrooms: Asylum follows up after Backrooms: Cult and Backrooms: Origins, where players have been taken by the Scientist. So, you now have to escape from him, but also Veronica, who’s hunting down any survivors.
This has more of a creepy vibe than outright scary, which should be familiar to any backrooms fans of those yellow walls and unsettling fluorescent lights. The puzzles, though, should be engaging, pushing exploration, and finding a way out.
6. Smily (1235-9269-8839 by mc_corbac)

Smiling is cool, just not all the freaking time. And that concept alone birthed Smily, taking after one of the most popular signature villain looks that gives off a menacing, serial killer vibe.
While there are so many antagonists that have adopted creepy smiles as their signature looks, the Joker, Pennywise, and villains from films like The Silence of the Lambs, the Fortnite version features one whose bite will sink you into a sea of hallucinations and nightmares.
5. Duo Escape Room (8377-3349-9404 by globefn)

Most of these best creative horror islands on Fortnite lead toward escaping the monster. So, it’s only right that we find one specifically curated for crafting the perfect escape. Duo Escape Room, as the name suggests, requires two to tango.
It has 30 levels, each spookier than the last. And they all feature tricky puzzles to get past, and enemies to beat.
4. Teddy (6890-1483-5306 by goodgamerslegacy)

Teddy bears give the warmest hugs, but that’s just the perfect bait, isn’t it? Pull your enemies closer type of thing. Anyway, you at least know how manipulative and vicious Teddy can get. So, running and hiding shouldn’t need thinking twice.
Even when you’re six survivors, one Teddy hunter is enough to have you aimlessly searching for keys to unlock exit doors. It’s a panic spree, with a timer further putting pressure on you and your team to escape before it’s too late.
Still, even in the best creative horror islands on Fortnite category, Teddy makes for a pretty fun party game to keep busy before dinner gets served.
3. FNAF – Night Shift Survival (5382-8693-1539 by 3dlab)

Crazy how FNaF has come and continues to thrive. In FNAF – Night Shift Survival, 3dlab adds Freddy, and his bloodthirsty animatronic friends, Chica and Mr. Cupcake. It also retains the player as the Night Shift security guard. So, everything should be easy to dive into.
This one’s pretty popular with hundreds of players at a time. Mostly because the exploration can hide lots of interesting stuff, including where to find the animatronics. You’ll definitely run into some jump scares, but overall, you’ll have fun deciphering the puzzles to reach the end of your night shift.
2. Arachnophobia (3549-9285-5936 by spikeu)

Any fear of spiders? Tough luck. Arachnophobia happens to be at the top of the best creative horror islands on Fortnite you must try out. It’s funny how it starts, with players as TikTok influencers accepting a challenge that quickly turns out to be the stuff of nightmares.
Spiders creeping out of nowhere, and taunting you with their fibbly, jointed legs. These are your worst enemies that you can either escape from or face head-on. But even after defeating eight hidden spiders, there’s yet another giant one: the ultimate stress test for anyone who makes it that far.
1. Kisaragi Danchi (1431-7115-9506 by seinch)

The worst fear, I think, is fear of the unknown. And Kisaragi Danchi builds on that, sending you to some abandoned housing complex to investigate a mysterious event. Not many horror maps hit that sweet spot of suspense, intrigue, and terror.
But Kisaragi Danchi does a great job with its foggy atmosphere and ambient sound design. It’s effortlessly terrifying in places, and equally compelling, especially the tear-jerking ending. And there’s a bonus ending you can chase after for even more time with the game.
