7 Days Blood Moon: Everything We Know

Dead by Daylight catapulted the asymmetrical gaming genre to the moon. The survival horror series crafts a treacherous world with the odds stacked hugely against you. Yet, despite the odds, you push through every challenge thrown at you to see a new dawn. The survival horror game 7 Days to Die offers a similar asymmetrical experience, garnering a steady following since its launch into Early Access. The game has gained so much popularity, in fact, that a spin-off title is currently underway. While it’s still early days, we’ve compiled everything we know about 7 Days Blood Moon below.
What is 7 Days Blood Moon?

7 Days Blood Moon is an upcoming 4v1 asymmetrical spin-off game set in the 7 Days to Die universe. The upcoming game will pit players against relentless hordes of zombies. Your goal will be to survive by any means necessary, from building impenetrable bases to scavenging for supplies. Unlike 7 Days to Die, 7 Days Blood Moon plans to feature a “Zombie Hive Master” who can command hordes of zombies against the survivors.
Story

7 Days Blood Moon takes place in a zombie apocalypse. You’ll strive to survive constant attacks by gathering useful materials from the environment and building a strong base of operations. But you’ll also be forced to defend yourself from invasion using varying tools and weapons.
Gameplay

7 Days Blood Moon will blend multiple genres, including FPS, RTS, survival horror, and tower defense. You’ll progress through levels, gaining new abilities and upgrades as you climb up the ranks. Unlike 7 Days to Die, you’ll choose between survivors or zombie masters, thus adding an extra layer of depth to the gameplay. Check out some of the key features you can expect in the final game below.
Key Features
- Choose: You’ll choose to play as a survivor, fighting to save humanity, or a powerful Zombie Hive Master, set on destroying Earth.
Survivors will be able to:
- Survive: Survivors team up to fight off zombie attacks. They put up a strong defense, repair broken equipment, and heal fallen comrades.
- Scavenge: You’ll explore your surroundings for useful supplies, including ammunition, health kits, and more. You can also craft gear and valuable equipment from your supplies.
- Build: Find prime locations to build a base, then bolster your defenses by setting up traps.
- Progress: The more you play, the more weapons and upgrades you’ll unlock.
- Craft: You’ll unlock and craft new weapons that inflict more damage.
- Customize: Beyond weapons, you’ll customize your character’s look. 7 Days Blood Moon will have a wide range of customization options that you can explore. From unique outfits to clothing options, you can show off your personal style.
Zombie Hive Masters will be able to:
- Strategize: Using a top-down perspective, you’ll scout survivors’ home bases and plan out your next attack. You’ll give commands to hordes of zombies, instructing them where they should attack from.
- Command: You’ll give orders to your zombie armies, coordinating their movement and attack patterns.
- Possess: While you’ll command armies, you can also descend on the battlefield, possessing zombies to fight survivors in the third person.
- Harvest: You’ll scoop up fallen survivors and transform them into your personal zombie army.
- Progress: Zombie Hive Masters will also have a separate progression path. You’ll unlock new zombie classes, each with unique skills and abilities.
Development

The Fun Pimps, in collaboration with Illogika Studios, is currently working on 7 Days Blood Moon. The studio first announced the game at TwitchCon 2023 and then went mute, presumably busy developing the game. Alternatively, they could be busy too with their hit game, 7 Days to Die, which only recently launched out of Early Access. So far, The Fun Pimps have sold over 16 million copies of the game. 7 Days to Die is probably the only game to prolong its stay in Early Access, having been released into Early Access in 2013 before officially launching on July 25, 2024. It took 12 years for the final game to be ready, all the while enduring active development. Now, the developing team is preparing to launch a new game that, more or less, looks to be a patchwork of the original.
Trailer
The Fun Pimps have been gracious enough to release the official 7 Days Blood Moon’s reveal trailer. Unfortunately, fan reception hasn’t been positive, with many players suggesting that the developing team should focus on optimizing 7 Days to Die rather than building a new game. It’s largely owing to the drop in quality the trailer portrays, with the only change being new areas to explore. The trailer looks a lot similar to the original, with the Zombie Hive Master the only standout feature you can look forward to. The spin-off is definitely riding on the success of the original, hoping to breathe new life into the lore. Yet, from the trailer, the studio doesn’t seem to introduce much. Here’s to hoping the final launch will be a fully-fledged and optimized entry that offers enough juice to justify a new entry.
Release Date, Platforms, & Editions

7 Days Blood Moon will be coming soon. Unfortunately, that’s all we know about the release window. It also seems like the title will launch into Early Access first, which, with 7 Days to Die taking 12 years to launch out of Early Access, could mean another long wait before getting your hands on the final game. We can at least confirm that the upcoming game will launch on PC platforms. As for consoles and editions, they remain unconfirmed at this time. Still, you can add the game to your Steam wishlist to get a notification as soon as it drops. Alternatively, you can follow the official social handle here to keep track of new updates.
