Will Hollow Knight: Silksong Release in 2025?

I can guarantee that the lion’s share of The Game Awards’ barrage of cascading comments were aimed towards one thing—a thing that, in spite of its immense popularity on a global scale, has been playing hooky with the industry for the best part of three or so years now. And if you’ve yet to put two and two together here, then yes — we’re essentially talking about Team Cherry’s ever-elusive Hollow Knight: Silksong, the highly anticipated sequel to 2017’s beloved indie Metroidvania that single-handedly went on to claim the industry’s heart in the aftermath of its debut. Why the sudden surge in comments, though, you may be asking? Well, when all’s said and done, they never really left; the sequel has been at the forefront of our collective mind ever since 2019, disappointingly. The problem is, we’re still no closer to actually seeing it.
Will Hollow Knight: Silksong Release in 2025?
There is a silver lining to ponder here, mind you: industry insider and Play Nice: The Rise, Fall, and Future of Blizzard Entertainment author Jason Schreier has claimed that the sequel could (we’re putting a harsh emphasis on that) launch at some stage in 2025 on its chosen platforms. Of course, this is based purely on intuition, though, understandably, where would usually take a lot of off-the-record comments with a slight grain of salt, there is some level of weight to this comment, in particular. As for when in 2025 it will launch, however, is still a bit of a mystery. Nevertheless, given the fact that the game has been in active development for a solid five years, it could be that these hopeful comments eventually ring true.
“I predict that it will finally come out this year — and it will sell millions of copies,” Schreier wrote for Bloomberg. Not too much of a surprise there, given the immense volume of copies the original sequence sold back in 2017.
It is worth pointing out here that Team Cherry is a three-piece studio, meaning things do tend to take much longer to thread together than the average triple-A firm. By any measure, though, six years is an average timeline for most indie projects, so a 2025 launch window is likely at this point in time. Don’t take our word on that, though.
