Vengeance Is Mine: Everything We Know

110 Industries, a firm best known for, well, Wanted: Dead, has been hard at work sketching a new mecha-based combat game for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC. And while it has yet to receive a solid release date, the team behind it has stapled a rough 2024 window to it. So that’s a start. But if you haven’t caught on yet, we’re talking about Vengeance Is Mine — the same project that popped up during the Tokyo Game Show back in October of 2021. That one.

Of course, with still a ways to go until 110 Industries finally soften out the creases and bring it to the table, there are several questions that remain to be answered. For what it’s worth, though, here’s everything we’ve been able to collect based on the information provided to date. Vengeance Is Mine: what is it, and why should you be keeping tabs on it as we cross over to 2024?

What Is Vengeance Is Mine?

To put it short, Vengeance Is Mine is an upcoming mech combat game by 110 Industries and Soleil. As a love letter to several IPs of its kind, the action-focused title will allow its players to utilize tools bestowed upon by an all-powerful rig known as HYDRA. And with that, you can half expect to see your fair share of epic clashes spread over grand-scale arenas and cyperpunk-infused landmarks. But what’s a great mech game without a compelling narrative to accompany it?

Story

Going by the blurb, Vengeance Is Mine will hurl you into the boots of Gabriel Jaeger, a protagonist who, prior to almost being “brutally executed” by three time travellers, was in receipt of a HYDRA mech suit. In a bid to bring revenge on those who wronged him, Jaeger aims to branch out and hunt every last foe on the battlefield, using every tool in the prototype’s arsenal to garner results and put a stop to their evil plot.

“Players will step into the shoes of Gabriel Jaeger, brutally executed by three-time travellers heading back to 1664 to obtain an old piece of technology that will allow them to operate the Deacon – a derelict military installation buried under the streets of New Amsterdam,” the press release explains. “Charles Jaeger, now in full control of the Deacon, rallies his flock to meet their spiritual leader Robert Wright beyond the horizon of space and time. His only problem is Gabriel. Barely making it out alive, Gabriel is in control of the prototype HYDRA mech suit and ready to wreak his revenge.”

Gameplay

According to the devs, Vengeance Is Mine will feature “brutal melee mech combat” with “a time-manipulation mechanic that adds a fascinating twist to encounters.” Armed with the ever-evolving HYDRA mech suit, players will have the opportunity to both rewind time and manipulate it, thus bringing a wide selection of powerful combos and strategies to employ into your arsenal.

“Thanks to the capabilities of the HYDRA mech suit, the player will have the ability to speed up time and blink towards unsuspecting enemies or rewind time to readjust combos or evade death,” the description adds. “HYDRA also comes packing an energy-based projectile weapon that allows you to take on foes at distance.”

Development

So, who do we have to thank for Vengeance Is Mine? Well, other than 110 Industries, we also have Soleil to consider, a team that recently brought not only Wanted: Dead to the table, but Valkyrie Elysium, too. And in case you ever had any doubts about these, then rest assured that the upcoming mecha-based IP is being fully backed by industry veterans that worked on both Final Fantasy XV and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. So, expect plenty of full-fat and hearty combat.

Development-wise, Vengeance Is Mine first revealed its true colors back at the Tokyo Game Show in 2021. Since then, both 110 and Soleil have provided a slew of in-game screenshots and even a rather sleek teaser to showcase its HYDRA mech. If everything goes according to plan, and providing neither of the two firms run into any issues, then the product should be ready to grace the shelves by 2024.

Trailer

The good news is, there is in fact a trailer of Vengeance Is Mine, although not exactly one that gives away all that much information. On the contrary, it’s a minute-long teaser that pretty much keeps all gameplay and story details to a bare minimum. Nevertheless, it’s still a piece of footage, and you can see it for yourself in the video embedded above.

Release Date, Platforms & Editions

As it currently stands, Vengeance Is Mine doesn’t have a definite release date locked in. That said, 110 Industries has enlightened us by way of saying that it will launch in 2024, and on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC, no less. And judging by that, one can only assume that it’ll launch without an ex-gen port in mind. As far as a Switch port goes, well, who knows? If 110 does indeed decide to venture down this route, then chances are it won’t be until after the base copy hits the network.

On a side note, if you are on the lookout for any special editions or pre-order bonuses, then you’re out of luck. Or at least, for the time being, anyway. As it turns out, 110 Industries has yet to formally announce anything of the sort. Makes sense, though, given the fact that the project is still dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s. If anything does come to light, then it’s bound to be in the latter half of 2023 at the very earliest. Don’t quote us on that, though.

Whatever the case, if Vengeance Is Mine has put you on tenterhooks, then you’ll definitely want to check in with the team’s official social feed for more updates here. If, by chance, 110 Industries decide to touch base on the game’s release date in the near future, then we’ll be sure to let you know as soon as we hear word.
