TRUST: Everything We Know

Three armed characters kneel near candles under the word Trust illuminated above

Well, if you are a fan of the comic-book horror of Forgive Me Father, then Byte Barrel’s new game TRUST is not likely to go unnoticed. In fact, what has become the hallmark of this developer—visually unique games with exciting gameplay—is indeed back in the form of a vampire-themed first-person shooter. TRUST was unveiled during Boomstock 2024, marrying stylish graphics and intense action with immersive elements set in a dark world where survival seems to be the most important thing.

So what must have captivated most players’ eyes with its comic-book art, as well as with an interesting premise of controlling a weakened vampire, this game must have already caught the attention of gamers. But what should we expect from this game? What kind of gameplay will it offer? Curious to know more? Well, here is everything we know so far about TRUST.

What is TRUST?

Two armored characters approach a damaged van in a dystopian city

Developers describe this game as “a first-person shooter with immersive sim elements, where you play as a vampire who has awakened from a slumber that lasted for centuries.” Players will enter a world of vampires and humans locked in a fierce struggle to outlive each other. The game marries the best of fast-paced shooting with immersive sim mechanics to be perfect, so you will have the leeway of choice to decide how to approach combat and challenges. This can be a direct action, or more strategic moves with thoughtful strategy.

Other than typical FPS mechanics, TRUST also introduces deeper interaction with the environment. The game will allow players to solve problems in various ways, either by using advanced human technology or relying on vampire abilities. So, this game brings a fresh experience: an immersive sim where you weave vampire lore, giving this first-person shooter genre an interesting, dynamic spin.

Story

Armored characters with weapons gather near a bus in an overgrown courtyard

TRUST is a game in which you are a vampire who has just awoken from sleeping for centuries. The world you once ruled over is no longer recognizable. Humans have discovered the incredible power in the blood of vampires. The game has dramatically changed the balance of power. Blood from the vampires now powers cities, cars, and even deadly weapons. The essence that made you so strong is now being farmed from you to fuel your everyday lives.

Unhappily, the vampires are losing this battle. Your race is hunted, caught, and nearly wiped out. In this new world, it is up to you to decide how to survive as one of the very few remaining vampires. The fight between the humans and the vampires is fierce than ever and can have only one winner. So, your existence determines the fate of your species.

Gameplay

Three armed characters prepare for action in a dimly lit room

TRUST focuses mainly on survival, where blood has been the most important source. And as mentioned above, your character is a weakened vampire where humans dominate the world; you will always need to hunt for blood to regain power. It’s up to you how to do it. You can be a little rag-doll with your guns and tech. Or maybe all is a bit more secret as you use your vampiric features to hunt stealthily from the darkness. After either of these options, you will need to pay attention to the state of your blood: it’s the only thing that keeps you alive.

Graphics-wise, the game should feature a mind-blowing comic-book art style, reminiscent of the 90s. Every environment you venture into-abandoned cities, hidden underground hideouts-will seem like it came straight off the page from a graphic novel. This is not just about visuals-it’ll bleed into how you interact with the world, too. Additionally, many objects in the environment will really pop for you and will give you opportunities to use them creatively.

In addition to that, the game features a dynamic day-and-night cycle, changing the way you approach every single mission. You’re strongest at night as a vampire but some tasks will force you to act during the day, where sunlight becomes a deadly threat. During the day, you will have to lurk in the shadows and be much more careful; this will introduce a tense layer of strategy in the gameplay.
