TRON: Catalyst — Everything We Know

Welcome back, user. The world of Tron awaits. We’re, of course, holding our breath for the upcoming movie, Tron: Ares. But also, gaming folks now have their own exciting project coming up, and we’re definitely here for all of it. Introducing Tron: Catalyst, a new game set in the Tron universe. So, definitely look forward to wielding the futuristic Identity Disc and hopping onto your slick Light Cycle ride.
There’ll also be a Glitch in the universe that you can choose to make the most of and come out swinging in one piece. If you’re as excited as I am for the upcoming game, come along as we explore everything we know so far about Tron: Catalyst.
What is TRON: Catalyst?

Tron: Catalyst is an upcoming action-adventure set in Disney’s beloved Tron universe. It’ll tell the story of the Arq Grid, where an impending doom is about to destroy the world. Fortunately, you’re well equipped for the potential apocalypse, with your Identity Disc and Light Cycle in hand.
Get ready to fight the bad guys, with the sole goal of escaping the chaos about to ensue. While the Glitch threatens to destroy the world, it can also be the opportunity you need to gain power and win. As always, the new game plans to induce the same kinetic energy the series is known for, with a compelling story to boot.
Story

Set in the iconic Disney TRON universe, Tron: Catalyst will craft a new adventure for the books. It’ll feature multiple factions at each other’s necks, complete with a brand new story. Your character and the protagonist of the story will be Exo who is, in fact, a program priding itself on resilience and resourcefulness. However, Eco has a unique ability and power that you draw from the Glitch.
The Glitch gives you extra strength that draws unwanted attention from the powers that be. It doesn’t help that the Arq Grid itself is on the verge of collapse. And so, in the chaos and mayhem, the overlords of this world want to control your power.
More specifically, Exo is a courier who was working in the Arq Grid’s capital city when a mysterious package explodes, imbuing you with special powers. These powers are far more potent than any other programs in the city. It’ll cause hostile programs to hunt you down, often having to engage them in combat. But also, you’ll discover hidden mysteries about the grid and become a hero the world needs.
Gameplay

Tron: Catalyst will be a story-driven, isometric, action-adventure game. It’ll immerse you into a compelling world packed with stunning locations. The world will be called the Arq Grid, which you may remember being first introduced in 2013’s Tron: Identity.
This is a world where weapons take the form of Identity Discs and automobiles are called Light Cycles. The overlords will constantly be hot on your tail, leading to impromptu combat encounters and “Light Cycle chases.” Chief of the antagonists who will be pursuing you is Conn, also a program but with an evil agenda.
Additionally, you’ll solve the mysteries behind the glitches plaguing the world. These glitches are causing rampant instability in the Arq Grid and it’ll be up to you to get to the root of the problem.
Key Features
Thanks to the game’s Steam page, we have the key features you can expect in the final game below:
- Dynamic combat: Plenty of evil programs will come after you, forcing you to attack and defend yourself using melee and ranged combat. You’ll fight them off using your Identity Cycle or while riding your Light Cycle. Tron: Catalyst will have parrying and kicks you unleash using your Identity Disc. Meanwhile, you’ll explore the Arq Grid and collect Data Shards that enable you to upgrade your program, and consequently, abilities.
- Engaging story: Navigate a new story set in the TRON universe. You’ll meet lots of programs in the Arq Grid, each with unique secrets. Some will be hostile, chasing you down across the city and its outskirts. As such, it’ll be a fight for survival, even as you control Exo.
- The Glitch: Thanks to random glitches, the Arq Grid is on the verge of collapsing. These glitches result in time loops. However, only your character can experience the loops and exploit their power. This gives you an upper hand over discovering hidden secrets, shortcuts, and, ultimately, defeating the factions that hunt you down.
- TRON universe: Soaked in neon and unfolding to the beat of an immersive soundtrack by Dan Le Sac, the world of Tron awaits your command.
Development

Developer Bithell Games and publishers Big Fan Games and Devolver Digital are currently working on developing and bringing the upcoming game to market. This isn’t the first TRON game, with various others released from as early as 1982. The games are usually based on events and characters in the Tron films, of which Tron: Catalyst will be no different to some degree.
Trailer
Check out Tron: Catalyst’s announcement trailer on YouTube. It showcases sneak peeks of the digital world of Tron. You’re attempting to escape the glitch, even if no other program has been able to. This thrusts you into a series of combat encounters and engaging adventures across the city.
