What is Tides of Annihilation?

Tides of Annihilation is an upcoming fantasy action-adventure game, set in a twisted, post-apocalyptic version of modern London.The game draws inspiration from Arthurian legends and combines a fantasy style reminiscent of the Elden Ring with the modern British capital of London. The post-apocalyptic version of London in the game has been ravaged by a mysterious fog and otherworldly invaders. Players will experience an eviroment where ancient warriors and supernatural forces clash in a battle for survival.

Story

The game’s story follows Gwendolyn, a young woman and the last known survivor of a catastrophic invasion that has shattered London.Invaders from another world have destroyed the city and a mysterious fog in the city turns everything it touches to otherworldly and strange. Players take on the role of Gwendolyn, who embarks on a quest to uncover the mystery behind the fog and save reality itself. 

Gwendolyn discovers she has the ability and power to summon warriors from the legendary Knights of the Round Table, who have unique powers and fighting styles. The Summoned knights will help her in battles against gangs of enemies and colossal bosses inspired by Arthurian mythos.

Gwendolyn embarks on a perilous journey to uncover the truth behind the invasion and save your missing sister. You will navigate a fragmented world that blends modern London with the mystical realm of Avalon.

Gameplay

Tides of Annihilation offers a fast-paced, single-player action-adventure experience, with a combat system similar to modern hack-and-slash titles. However, the game integrates strategic elements through the knight summoning system, which is one of the core features of the gameplay. Each of the knights has unique fighting abilities. Therefore, players must strategically choose the knights to summon based on the challenges they face, enemy types, and combat scenarios. Players can also choose their preferred gameplay and combine the knights’ powers to craft their own battle plans for a more immersive experience. The summoning system adds a tactical depth that is not in most traditional action games, making battles more dynamic and engaging.

The game showcases iconic London landmarks in its setting as an otherworldly invasion cataclysmically shatters the city. Players can expect a world filled with ruins of skyscrapers, medieval castles, and magical landscapes. Players will solve puzzles, uncover hidden secrets, and battle aliens, while they explore London’s iconic landmarks, switching between two interconnected worlds. These include a shattered modern London and a medieval fantasy world of Avalon, influenced by Arthurian lore. 

The game is expected to deliver over 30 hours of gameplay with more than 30 unique boss battles. Each of the bosses is based on Knights of Round Table lore and featuring unique abilities. Another thrilling gameplay feature is the presence of giant knights that roam the city. The giant knights are twisted versions of noble heroes from Arthurian legend. In addition, the interplay between Gwendolyn and the knights creates a dynamic, fast-paced, and deeply engaging combat experience. 

Development

A new studio based in Chengdu, China called Eclipse Glow Games, is developing Tales of Annihilation. The studio is supported by investment from Chinese megacorp Tencent, ensuring it has the required financial backing to develop an AAA production. 

Despite being a relatively new studio in the gaming industry, the team consists of over 100 developers including industry veterans from SEGA, Ubisoft, and Gameloft. The developers’ previous experience includes creating games for franchises such as Yakuza, For Honor, Assassin’s Creed, Persona, and Prince of Persia. This underscores the teams ability, experience and talent to create an action-adventure game that delivers an engaging, immersive, and high-quality experience for players.

Trailer

The official reveal trailer, released during February 2025 Sony’s State of Play,  gives fans the first glimpse of Tides of Annihilation. The trailer highlighted the game’s remarkable blend of fantasy and realism, as well as its stunning visuals and fluid fighting mechanics. This two-minute trailer shows the game’s narrative and gameplay elements and introduces players to Gwendolyn. Gwendolyn, the protagonist, navigates London after an otherworldly invasion transforms the city.

Additionally, the trailer showcases breathtaking vistas of the transformed cityscape, where towering skyscrapers seamlessly blend with medieval castles and fantastical structures, creating a visually striking fusion of eras and styles. The intricate level of detail in the environment enhances the sense of scale and wonder, immersing audiences in a world that feels both familiar and otherworldly.

Release Date and Platforms

As of now, Tides of Annihilation does not have an official release date. The game will be available on multiple platforms, including PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.

The game will offer over 30 hours of engaging playtime, providing a rich and immersive experience filled with exciting challenges, deep storytelling, and extensive exploration. Additionally, it will feature an exclusive Enhanced Mode designed specifically for PS5 Pro users. This mode will leverage the console’s advanced hardware to deliver improved visuals, realistic ray tracing, and a stable 60fps performance.
