NBA 2k25: Everything We Know

The NBA 2K franchise is maintaining its streak of annual releases with the upcoming NBA 2K25, which will be on your doorstep sooner than you may think. Lots of annual franchises have succumbed to the pressure of launching a new game with barely enough improvements to justify a full release. It’s no different with NBA 2K, which fans are hoping will bring quality-of-life features that place it on the podium of the best sports titles to play this year. If you’re curious to know the officially confirmed features to expect in the new game, we’ve compiled everything we know about NBA 2K25 down below.

What is NBA 2K25?

NBA 2K25 is an upcoming iteration of the long-running NBA 2K basketball sports simulation franchise. The series has been launching new entries every year, with 25 mainline installments released so far, along with several spinoffs. The latest and 25th entry is NBA 2K24, released in September 2023. Now, fans are set to receive a new iteration that hopefully elevates the gameplay to new heights.

Story

Typically, MyCAREER serves as the story campaign mode in the NBA 2K series. Players create a MyPLAYER and take them on a journey from a rookie basketball player competing through college to eventually becoming a superstar NBA player. In NBA 2k25, you’ll choose from some of the legends of the NBA, taking on challenges they faced and hitting career milestones. The new game will feature “the greatest dynasty the sport has ever seen.”

But beyond professional competitions, you’ll also explore a bustling city. You’ll engage in streetball fun, competing in different, new venues. As you play, you’ll forge a reputation that will etch your name among the best of the best.

You can also choose a MyPLAYER in the W game mode, which is specific to the WNBA. It’s only available on next-gen consoles and tasks you with climbing up the ranks from rookie to superstar. Furthermore, you’ll tinker around with different skills and tailor them to your play style. As you compete in more WNBA championships and win matches, you’ll unlock All-Star upgrades that allow you to challenge some of the renowned superstars in the league in seasonal games or casual matches.

NBA 2K25 will have MyTEAM. The game mode will be more or less the same as previous teams, with players creating their own team made up of elite historical and current NBA players. Thereafter, you’ll compete in weekly competitions against other players’ teams (or AI), showing off your best skills. The more you play, the more cards you’ll collect that unlock new players, along with more rewards.

There’s also MyNBA, which puts you in the shoes of a general manager. It challenges you to manage the behind-the-scenes of competitions. You’ll be free to choose from six eras, including an all-new era. However, like The W, MyNBA will only be available on next-gen consoles.

Alongside game modes, you can expect the return of ProPLAY. It allows direct translation of NBA footage into in-game matches. As a result, you’ll enjoy more immersive dunking and layup moments, depicting real-life superstars’ moves as closely as possible.

Furthermore, seasons will return, bringing with it exciting rewards and all-new content. You’ll embark on a new season every six weeks, competing in MyTEAM and MyCAREER to level up players’ XP, cards, skills, and more. If you have Pro Pass and Hall of Fame Pass, you can enjoy 40 levels packed with rewards with each season and an additional 40 levels of bonus content.

2K Games and Visual Concepts have been at the forefront of developing and publishing NBA 2K games, and NBA 2K25 will be no different. It’s unclear how the new iteration plans to stand out from the crowd. Its game modes and features are largely similar to the previous games. Here’s to hoping the new game makes enough of a step forward to elevate the franchise to the next level.
