It's been a long wait for the launch of Elden Ring. You'd be pleased to know that the waiting is almost done as Elden Ring's release is much closer than you think.

FromSoftware and the Game of Thrones' writer, George R.R. Martin, had announced the upcoming release of Elden Ring in 2019. Afterwards, they went silent only to reappear with the initial gameplay reveal in mid-2021.

There was a short delay of its original release in January this year. Now, we're certain of its release date (only a few days away). With that here are five things we know so far about the upcoming Elden Ring. Read on.

5. When is the Actual Release Date?

Elden Ring

It has been confirmed! The actual launch date for Elden Ring is set to be on February 22, 2022. This is only a few days away. Though there was a slight delay, mainly owed to the covid-19 pandemic, we can finally confirm that on February 25, 2022, Elden Ring will be available for purchase! It is hard to hold FromSoftware accountable for the long wait. After all, it's better to take as much time to polish everything up for the ultimate grim experience we've come to love from the house of Dark Souls.

4. How Long is Elden Ring?

There has been speculation on how long it might take to complete playing Elden Ring. Of course, estimating the time it takes to complete the entire game, including side quests and exploring the open world, is quite tricky. However, Yasuhiro Kitao revealed that the main story of the game will take 30 hours. Keep in mind that different gamers will play at a different pace, so it may take longer.

If you include the optional paths, the hours may very well double. As with previous Dark Souls games, 30 hours may be doing yourself a disservice since they end up being so engaging you want to come back to it feeling like it could go on forever.

3. Will There be Multiplayer in Elden Ring?

It is always a thrilling experience to challenge yourself with other players during a game session. Thankfully, Elden Ring is set to support the multiplayer option. Here, you can play with your friends, family, or other fans of the game in an asynchronous mode. The multiplayer option will support up to four players per session.

If you're playing online and would like to host a game session, you can choose to invite up to two online gamers to cooperate with. This leaves room for playful aggression where a random invader fills up the fourth slot.

If you'd like to select a multiplayer group where you can easily find your friends whenever you want to play, then Elden Ring will support you in connecting with your friends from miles away. The way this will work is by registration of your group identification so that you can share information with your friends. Unlike the previous Dark Souls game, Elden Ring will ask you to set a keyword. Friends within your keyword identification can then leave elements such as bloodstains, phantoms, or messages. Elden Ring will prioritize and highlight these elements for you in-game to locate your friends in the game. There is no limit to how many members can join a group leaving a huge opportunity to connect with and support each other in the open-world game.

2. Will It be Cross-Platform?

Unfortunately, Elden Ring will not support cross-platform devices. If you're using a Playstation and would like to play with your friends who are using an Xbox or PC, it will not be possible. On the bright side, Elden Ring does support cross-generational consoles. This means that you can play the game regardless of whether you use a PlayStation4, PlayStation5, Xbox Series X, or Xbox One. So, you can go ahead and team up with players using a different generational console than you. Elden Ring will also be available on PC via Steam.

1. What's New in Elden Ring?

ELDEN RING - Story Trailer

Finally, we are summing up some of the changes we know will feature in the new Elden Ring video game. For one, the delay in the release of the game is owed to the depth and freedom that will feature in the open-world setting, unlike any previous releases.

Based on the reviews from the network test build of the full game, Elden Ring will introduce the sprawling open-world of The Lands Between. It features day and night shifts with plenty of underground dungeons, bosses, and countless secrets to solving.

Because of the expansive world the game is set in. You can summon your horse to get around quickly and battle while on horseback. You can also scale tall structures in one jump and traverse back using a ‘jump' button.

In summary, here's what's new in Elden Ring.

  • Open-world: The game will feature a sprawling open-world unlike any other, with six main zones to explore. In addition to horseback riding, you can fast travel between specific points in the game, making healing and avoiding enemies much easier.
  • Combat: New jumping mechanics and horseback fighting techniques will be introduced. One major thing FromSoftware assured its fans, is the new game's inclusion of more stealth options and over 100 more varied skills to explore.
  • Storyline: This time, Elden Ring will focus more on character development because of George R.R. Martin's involvement in the game build. It will be direct with its plot and feature a span of major characters.

Of course, the visuals are as advanced as previous games, perhaps, much better. If you've seen the trailer, you're sure to expect a polished state-of-the-art game with the grim lore setting of Dark Souls 3.

That's it for what's new in Elden Ring. In case you've got any questions, feel free to leave us a comment below or on our socials here.
