Digimon Alysion: Everything We Know

We can all agree that card games have come a long way from when they were first introduced to the world. From their paper origins to being optional minigames for renowned titles, card games have now secured their slot in the spotlight in virtual gaming. They have quickly become a huge fan favourite, prompting both AAA and indie developers to take more interest in the genre. In this article, we dive deep into the upcoming online card game Digimon Alysion, highlighting everything we know about it so far.

What is Digimon Alysion?

The title is a free-to-play multiplayer digital trading card game and a new addition to the Digimon franchise. In it, players build different decks that contain several of the franchise’s characters. The game designers completed the deck with pack openings, pixelated art of the beloved monsters, and fun combat. Aside from that, players can also raise their virtual pets, further contributing to the game’s predicted success. The game will certainly give fans, both new and seasoned, a kick.

Story

Details regarding the game’s narrative are scarce. However, we know that the developers plan to make it both a mobile app simulator of the card game and a game that features an original narrative and characters. The main character is a girl named Kanata Hondo. She drives the narrative together with her partners, Agumon and Gabumon. Further, Futre and Gemmon are additional characters that will significantly impact the game’s story. The game typically looks like playing the real-life version of it with a few dramatic digital effects.

Gameplay

The developers have yet to fully reveal the details concerning Digimon Alysion’s gameplay. Nevertheless, we are certain that the game is a multi-player online card game featuring many beloved characters for the game franchise. Like other games in the genre, the title allows players to build and play with decks that feature characters from different parts of the franchise. In addition, the title introduces new DigiAly cards for gameplay, in addition to the traditional cards from the original card game. Additionally, the game includes an in-app purchase feature. 

Other than trading cards, the game also contains other quests like raising monster pets and a story mode. The story mode will feature Katana, the protagonist. Her Digimon partner, Gemmon, who is a fluffy white creature with gems encrusted into its body, accompanies her. A short girl with white hair who wields a unique ability named Futre joins the two. Valner, a golden-haired girl, also joins this party in their quest. It also includes a selection of pixel art Digimon with levels attached. From this, we can assume that players will be at liberty to upgrade their avatars in the match. The developers are also working on a closed beta test, which they will release before the game officially hits the market.

Development

Developer and publisher Bandai Namco Entertainment, announced their new game, Digimon Alysion, during this year’s Digimon Con livestream presentation. The Digimon franchise took a page out of the Pokémon TCG Pocket playbook when they decided to create this title. Considering the success behind Pokémon TCG, it is safe to assume that the Digimon Alysion TCG will find its way to the top of the best-seller board after its debut.

Before this title, there have been various iterations of Digimon collectable card games since the late 1990s. However, they initially released the latest iteration of the Digimon Card Game in Japan in 2020. A year later, it was released worldwide. The card game was not available digitally. Players did, however, have access to a tutorial app that contained the game’s rules. The debut of Digimon Alysion will make the card game available to players. 

Trailer

During the Digimon Con 2025 event, Bandai Namco Entertainment unveiled the trailer for Digimon Alysion. They also announced a new anime series they are working on during the same event. In the trailer, fans get a preview of the game’s characters and elements of what will be included in the gameplay. At first, we see a gameboard and cards, and what appears to be a pack opening and a card collection screen. The player is holding the cards, which resemble the original ones in the real-life card game. Next, the trailer presents menu footage showing a selection of pixel art Digimon and game levels attached. That could indicate the possibility that the game has a feature that will allow players to select and level up their preferred avatars in the match. 

The trailer also shows a preview of online matchmaking between different players. Additionally, the trailer highlights a story mode featuring the protagonist, Katana Hondo, and her partner, Gemmon. The developers portray Gemmon as a small, cute, and fluffy creature. It closely resembles a rabbit, with a huge gem on its forehead and several other gems on its body. Futre and Valner Dragnogh also join the party. Other Digimon featured include Renamon, Agumon, Gabumon, and their respective Mega forms. 

Furthermore, the game introduces the beginning of a player vs. player match between two players. It also depicts that the game not only includes trading cards and building decks, but players will also be able to raise fun monster pets and collect a wide selection of cards. The game is also categorized as a free-to-play game with in-app purchases. At the end of the trailer, we see Bandai Namco’s logo as well as a disclaimer that explains the game might look different from what fans experienced in the trailer. 

Release Date and Platforms

Bandai Namco officially announced their new upcoming digital trading card game, Digimon Alysion. The title is a free-to-play match that will debut on iOS and Android. The official release date for this game remains unknown. However, the development company has confirmed that they will conduct a closed beta test for the game prior to its release.
