Beginning with Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines, the franchise has stayed true to its real-time stealth tactics roots, orchestrating the adventures of a fictional commando unit as they tackle events based loosely on World War II.
Since 2006, the franchise has been on a long-term hiatus. But they’re making a glorious return soon with an upcoming Commandos: Origins entry. So, what do we know about the new Commandos game? What is Commandos: Origins?

Commandos: Origins is an upcoming real-time stealth tactics game currently in development by developer Claymore Game Studios and publisher Kalypso Media. If the name sounds familiar, your instincts are right on point, as the upcoming game will pick up where the iconic Commandos franchise left off.
With five mainline games already released in the Commandos series between the years 1998 and 2006, Commandos: Origins will mark the sixth mainline installment fans have long waited for all these years.
Story

Commandos: Origins plans to take you back to the franchise’s roots in real-time tactics. It’ll feature the original characters in the series who make up the elite World War II commando unit. Player’s game decisions will possibly change the course of history. So, you’ll definitely face pretty high-stakes missions and make tough decisions that take a minute to digest.
You’ll meet the legendary Jack O’Hara, the Green Beret, and his five-party troops. As always, they will be taking on deadly missions no one else would dare accept. Take a look at the official story description via Steam below:
In the hushed shadows of history’s most pivotal moments, where heroes are born, and legends are forged, a new chapter awaits. Whether it is a daring raid, covert sabotage, or a courageous rescue mission – the Green Beret, the Sapper, the Sniper, the Driver, the Marine, and the Spy will need to combine their skills to meet the most challenging tasks. Your mission can only be achieved through well-thought-out planning and the smart combination of stealth and destruction that come with the unique skillsets of this elite troop.
From the icy plains of the Arctic to the vast deserts of Africa, from the western coastlines of Europe to the Eastern front, it’s up to you to lead your commandos to success in high-risk missions. Guide them in their fight against the growing Nazi occupation, which is menacing the free world.
Gameplay

Commandos: Origins plans to take players on a nostalgic trip to the foundation of real-time tactics. You’ll take command of an elite team of six original characters from the Commandos series. There’ll be no one-size-fits-all solution to challenges. You can use stealth or charge guns, blazing into missions.
The series is tracing its steps back to the start. However, the visuals and control system will receive a modern, fresh coat of paint. However, the essence of what made the Commandos franchise a legendary real-time classic will remain. Environments will vary, each drawing inspiration from history. You’ll engage in varied missions while teaming up with friends online or in a couch co-op.

Development

Developer Claymore Game Studios and publisher Kalypso Media will collaborate to bring to stores the newest addition to the Commandos franchise, Commandos: Origins. The series’ last mainline entry was released in 2006. Since then, we have received remasters, including Commandos 2 – HD Remaster, in 2020.
With the original developer, Mimimi Studios, closing its doors down for good, it’s exciting to see the franchise make a triumphant return with a new mainline entry after so long and, consequently, keep the real-time stealth tactics genre alive.

Feel free to check out the Commandos: Origins announcement trailer. It shows snippets of the story and gameplay you can expect in the final game. It doesn’t go deep into the gameplay details. However, the updated visuals and environments send a snappy thrill down your spine, enough to sustain anticipating future gameplay trailers and launch days.
Release Date, Platforms, & Editions

Commandos: Origins plans to launch sometime in 2024. No exact release date has been set yet. The game will be released on PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5 platforms. It’ll also be available on Day One on Xbox Game Pass. However, no editions have been confirmed yet.
