Chronicles: Medieval: Everything We Know
Chronicles: Medieval was announced at the Summer Game Fest 2025. The game is being developed by Raw Power Games, a new studio, and is already building anticipation. The game combines role-playing, sandbox simulation, and real-time strategy elements in a single gaming experience. The title promises intense combat, complex systems, and storytelling. Think of it as your ultimate medieval sandbox; every choice you make, every battle you fight, and every alliance you forge matters.
In addition, the game aims to simulate a living medieval world, where your choices, alliances, and battles matter. Chronicles: Medieval offers the chance to live out your own story in a world shaped as much by your decisions as it is by dynamic AI.
Below, we discuss everything we know about Chronicles: Medieval.
What is Chronicles Medieval?
Chronicles: Medieval is an open-world sandbox and strategy game set in a historical European setting. But don’t expect dragons or magic here. The game is set in the year 1313 AD, a turbulent period of political upheaval and warfare in medieval Europe. Players create their characters and carve out their path to power. Players can choose to take on different roles, such as commoners or powerful lords. In addition, they can choose to engage in brutal sword fights or manage feudal estates.
Forget the usual traditional RPGs with linear storylines. Chronicles: Medieval puts you in full control. The game’s focus is on player choice and dynamic storytelling. Every choice you make shapes your journey and lets you rise through the ranks however you see fit, whether as a mercenary, merchant, bandit, or noble.
Chronicles: Medieval Story

The story of Chronicles: Medieval does not follow a linear narrative. Instead, it offers what the developers refer to as a “sandbox history experience.” Players begin in a dynamic medieval world that is already in motion. Kingdoms are rising and falling, factions are vying for control, and the population is struggling with war, famine, and rebellion. You aren’t the chosen one. You’re just another player in a vast, dangerous world. However, your actions can shape the course of history.
Your journey may start as a mercenary, a disgraced noble, or a peasant with ambition. From there, it’s up to you whether you fight for a cause or serve a king. You may decide to build a trade empire or form your dynasty. You embark on a journey to become the most powerful and influential figure of the age.
Chronicles: Medieval allows you to choose your own path. It can be through warfare, diplomacy, trade, or espionage. The choice is yours. The game offers three broad story paths: power, adventure, or fortune. Therefore, you can seek glory on the battlefield as a mercenary or soldier, or build a trade empire as a merchant.
Additionally, you can engage in subterfuge and intrigue to influence political outcomes. In return, the world reacts dynamically to your choices. The world will experience famines, plagues, and invasions, which can alter the political landscape. Hence, it is forcing you to adapt your strategy and seize new opportunities.
Most of the storytelling in Chronicles: Medieval comes from player choices and interactions. Whether through diplomacy, warfare, or personal ambition, your legacy is entirely your own. Every player’s story is unique, shaped by their decisions and the evolving medieval world around them.
Gameplay
Chronicles: Medieval’s gameplay is a rich fusion of third-person action RPG and grand strategy. The game is set in an open-world sandbox that simulates a living medieval Europe. Players start with a custom character of humble origins. The characters develop through combat, trade, diplomacy, or intrigue. The game offers freedom to pursue any path, allowing for diverse playstyles.
Combat is one of the game’s most refined systems. Inspired by historical European martial arts (HEMA), it features realistic physics, animations, and weapon interactions. Irrespective of the weapon the player is holding, the combat rewards timing, positioning, and stamina management. You can fight in both first-person and third-person perspectives. Mounted combat is also a key feature. The feature allows players to charge enemies on horseback or participate in full-scale cavalry clashes.
Notably, the developers are keen on historical accuracy. The combat system is being developed in collaboration with HEMA expert Björn Rüther. Therefore, ensuring realistic weapon handling, weighty swings, and skillful dueling.
