10 Best Abilities in Avowed
Fighter, Ranger or Wizard: pick your poison. Well, technically, you’re not restricted to just one class. You can always choose to level up the class that fits your play style best. But Obsidian Entertainment‘s Avowed also lets you mix and match abilities from either class.
What’s more? The abilities you choose will cross over seamlessly, especially between the Ranger/Wizard or Fighter/Ranger classes. Still, you have to be smart about the abilities you prioritize. The enemies in the world of Eora spawn once.
And so, the rewards and loot they grant you have to be allocated wisely. To ensure you’re on the right path to conquering all of the fearsome beasties and bosses you’ll encounter in your exploration, we’ve summed up the best abilities in Avowed worth looking out for below.
10. Grimoire Mastery (Wizard)

Spells are a pretty handy tool in Avowed. They get you out of tight combat situations but can also break through magic-specific obstacles during exploration. While you can rely on basic spells, you want to unlock the Grimoire Mastery ability to unlock a higher level of spellcasting.
Tied to the Wizard skill tree, this ability does wonders for the rate at which you consume Essence. You can consume less Essence while inflicting more powerful spells as long as they appear in your Grimoire.
9. Constant Recovery (Fighter)

Fighters aren’t afraid to get up close and personal with their adversaries. They will often rely on their melee skills and weapons to get them out of trouble. Unfortunately, this also means that they will sustain the most damage.
To ensure your Fighter (or any other class you equip it to) lasts longer in battle, you want to equip it with the Constant Recovery ability. That way, they can regenerate health quicker while also helping you rest in between attacks.
8. Tanglefoot (Ranger)

Rangers, on the other hand, thrive on ranged combat. So, among the best abilities in Avowed for this class is Tanglefoot. As the name suggests, equipping your character with Tanglefoot makes them unleash vines that sprout beneath enemies, entangling them where they stand.
This gives you enough time to charge at them with the most potent strike you have. Alternatively, you can unleash a charged spell or gunshot to take out waves of enemies stuck in the vines.
7. Evasive (Ranger)

Another pretty vital ability is Evasive for Rangers, although it can be applied to any other class. It’s a handy tool to have at your disposal, given the numerous times you’ll need to dodge out of the way of incoming fire.
Each dodge will cost you some Stamina. With Evasive, though, your Stamina cost decreases by 25%. It’s quite the attractive perk, as Stamina is what fuels your attacks, parries, and pretty much every action you take in Eora.
6. Charge (Fighter)

At times, having a special ability you can apply to several case scenarios is the way to go. That’s the Charge ability for the Fighter skill tree or equipped to the other classes. It’s essentially a speedy forward dash move that you can use to quickly get out of the way of incoming fire.
Alternatively, it can be an offensive counter-attack go-to, charging into enemies to interrupt their attacks and inflicting significant damage in the process. The forward dash is quite powerful enough to blast through walls, too.
5. Steady Aim (Ranger)

It’s inevitable that at some point in Avowed, you’ll use guns to take down enemies. And as you know, with any gunslinger, you need that steady shot to make the most of your limited ammunition and weapon durability.
Lucky for you, Steady Aim on the Ranger skill tree can help improve your aim. It effectively slows down time by 25%, which you can increase to 75% at higher levels, to allow you the time to steady your aim and make perfect shots. Feel free to use Steady Aim for crossbows and arrows, too.
4. Chill Blades (Wizard)

Among the elements – ice, fire, earth, wind – Avowed’s combat thrives on the former. It allows you to unlock Chill Blades, which imbues not only your Wizard but any class you equip it to with ice power.
Casting spells using the Chill Blades ability will shoot ice shards that can freeze enemies in place, stunning them and leaving them open for attack. But the ice shards come in handy when freezing water, too, or breaking through certain obstacles.
3. Arcane Veil (Wizard)

Still on elevating your wizardry powers, you want Arcane Veil among the best abilities in Avowed. It’s your protection spell, essentially, against all incoming attacks. Within a span of 20 seconds, Arcane Veil will cut any damage you take by half.
Any damage taken away is always welcome in gaming. Plus, the ability doesn’t necessitate equipping the Grimoire.
2. Toughness (Fighter)

Another great defense mechanism you can apply to the Fighter skill tree is Toughness. They are often fighting in close quarters and are more likely to be injured. With the Toughness ability equipped, you can regain 20% more HP permanently.
It comes in handy when you run out of healing potions or food nourishments and need that quick save mid-combat. The 20% hardly compares to most health boosts. Also, you can always level it up to reach as high as regaining 45% of your health.
1. Survivalist (Ranger)

If you’re the kind of gamer who enjoys playing on the offense, Survivalist in the Ranger skill tree will come in handy. It ensures that every health potion or food you take replenishes your health at 20% more than the usual rate.
This is pretty grand, making your exploration pay off. As much as there are plenty of health potions and food items in Eora, you can possibly run short of supply. With Survavilst equipped, though, you can maximize each consumable at 20% more.
Further, health potions and food items take up space in your inventory. They can weigh heavy, too, slowing you down. Survivalist helps you manage your inventory for more valuable resources, gear, armor, and more.
