Xbox’s Handheld Will Combine the “Best of Xbox and Windows”

Xbox’s plans to fulfill the promise of delivering an exceptional Xbox-Windows hybrid handheld console are gradually becoming a solid reality as the firm continues to explore fresh hardware opportunities. The console itself, while still unnamed, or even without a formal announcement, for that matter, will reportedly combine “the best of Xbox and Windows”—an ambitious claim that could lead to a drastic surge in demand for Xbox’s ever-expanding portfolio and its Game Pass subscription offerings.
“We’ve been really innovating for a long time in the console space,” Microsoft’s VP of Next Generation Jason Ronald told The Verge during an interview earlier this week at CES 2025, “and as we partner across the industry it’s really about how do we bring those innovations that we’ve incubated and developed in the console space and bring them to PC and bring them to the handheld gaming space.”
“It’s bringing the best of Xbox and Windows together, because we have spent the last 20 years building a world-class operating system, but it’s really locked to the console,” Ronald continued, discussing the handheld in greater detail. “What we’re doing is we’re really focused on how do we bring those experiences for both players and developers to the broader Windows ecosystem.”
As it stands, Microsoft has yet to formally announce its plans to physically launch the handheld device in question. Having said that, it seems that the powers that be aren’t exactly shying away from their hopes and dreams of bringing the blueprints into play to help tackle the demand, either. To that end, it’s really only a matter of time before Xbox finally lifts the veil on its latest endeavor, at which point we’ll be sure to feed you all of the latest updates.
