World of Tanks 2.0: Everything We Know

World of Tanks 2.0 update is coming, and it’s free. You’ll need the base game to access the update, whether on your PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, or Windows PC platforms via Steam and the Wargaming Game Center. But what exactly does this new update plan bring to the base game? Well, quite a ton, which we’ll go over in our World of Tanks 2.0: Everything We Know article below.

What is World of Tanks 2.0?

World of Tanks 2.0: Everything We Know

World of Tanks is an online multiplayer tank game. Players compete in teams in a fierce MMO PvP system, controlling powerful tanks against one another. It’s such a big and legendary game, in fact, that Wargaming has provided players with over 800 mid-20th-century armored vehicles. And with the upcoming World of Tanks 2.0 update, you can expect a ton more. The tanks typically have unique mechanics and progression systems.

So, a fresh update basically means a ton more customizable options to experiment with and replay the game. The core systems will remain in place. After all, they are what make World of Tanks worthwhile. However, the World of Tanks 2.0 update’s aim is to improve on the core systems and expand features, so that both newcomers and veterans enjoy fresh discoveries and gameplay.

Story

World of Tanks 2.0: Everything We Know

The story of the original World of Tanks is a little all over the place. Rather than follow a linear campaign, players discover new tanks and their historical contexts. You can also play through in-game story modes, which feature mid-20th-century tanks, alongside special events implemented via story campaigns. Overall, though, World of Tanks’ focus has always been on pitting online players against one another via a deeply strategic PvP tank vehicular combat system.

Still, World of Tanks 2.0 plans to spice up the story campaigns. For instance, it’ll add a brand-new, never-before-seen Scandinavian map. This’ll power a story-driven PvE mode.

Gameplay

So, what new changes, improvements, and features are coming in World of Tanks 2.0? Overall, you can look forward to the debut of brand-new Tier XI tanks, 16 to be precise. Moreover, you’ll enjoy a completely redesigned Hangar and UI system. As for improvements, Wargaming has focused its efforts on making adjustments to balance issues of skills and hundreds of vehicles, as well as better, next-generation matchmaking. Let’s go over the new changes step by step.

Vehicle Rebalance

With a dedicated video showing the specific tanks that will be receiving much-needed buffs, you also get a deep-dive exploration of the complete overhaul Wargaming plans to make. The studio will be improving stock vehicles to a massive degree, up to over 350 tanks reworked. They will be adding dozens of adjustments to current vehicles. Meanwhile, you’ll also enjoy changes to the modules of your Tech Trees that make navigation easier.

More specifically, Wargaming is adjusting hundreds of vehicles across all tiers in what will be the biggest rebalance ever. They will get rid of clutter modules, thus enhancing the difficulty, while at the same time hastening progression and early battles on every Tech Tree. As for light tanks, they’ll last longer in battle, thanks to more HP without compromising stealth or speed. The premium tanks, on the other hand, will receive stronger stats, thus refreshing old vehicles you used to like. Be sure to check out the official website for the specific adjustments to your favorite tank, searching by the nation, type, tier, or name.

New Tier XI Tanks

A total of 16 new Tier XI tanks will be added to the new update, each with its unique mechanics and progression system.

Improved Hangar and Overall UI

The new Hangar and overall UI will be streamlined to become more functional and straightforward.

New Matchmaking System

Wargaming is building the matchmaking system from the ground up, allowing speedier queuing, fair team balancing, and dynamic battles.

Brand New Map

This’ll be called Nordskar, based in Scandinavia.

New Story-Driven PvE Event

Moreover, you can look forward to a new PvE event, named Operation Boiling Point. Here’s where you’ll show off your new Tier XI tanks on a brand-new battlefield.

Better Sound

Lastly, you can look forward to punchier and more authentic sound systems for tanks, combat, and general immersive sound in the environment.

Development

Explosion

Developer and publisher Wargaming remains at the wheel of steering World of Tanks’ into success. They make pretty big promises, with Michael Broek, Publishing Director at World of Tanks, saying, “2.0 isn’t just an update – it’s a cornerstone of the game’s future evolution that will define World of Tanks development for years to come.” It’s been two years in the making, and the changes and new features revealed thus far definitely appear to elevate the series for every newcomer and seasoned veteran.

Trailer

World of Tanks: Update 2.0 Cinematic Trailer | gamescom 2025

Wargaming has been pretty diligent in releasing early footage of World of Tanks 2.0. You not only have a cinematic trailer revealed at the Gamescom Night Live event, but also a 16-minute-long overview, and a 4-minute focus video on the rebalancing that is to come. In the cinematic trailer, the graphics look damn hot. Of course, this won’t be the same graphics in-game. But it does the job of hooking your interest pretty well, alongside a banging “Welcome to your worst nightmare” soundtrack.

Meanwhile, the overview, while pretty in-depth, still reveals a disappointing Hangar UI and fantasy tanks. The focus video, on the other hand, carries some good news of buffing Type 5 Heavy, 60TP Lewandowski, Progetto 65, Obj 140, and more. While some tanks still remain untouched, the rebalancing changes are pretty exciting and double up anticipation for launch day.
