What Happened to Kingdom Hearts 4?

Forget 358/2 Days — Kingdom Hearts 4 has officially gone over 1,000 days without so much as a fresh lick of paint or another exclusive sneak peak. That’s right, over three years have passed since Square Enix last teased the fourth mainline entry in the beloved Disney-Pixar series, thus making it a true love letter to the developer’s god-awful reputation of keeping details on an irritably tight leash. The question that hangs over most, if not all of our heads at the minute, of course, is whether or not it will release in the latter half of 2025, or if it will become just another internet meme to poke fun at. “We had Grand Theft Auto 6 before Kingdom Hearts 4.” Yeah, you’re probably right to think that, to be brutally honest.

To put you in the picture, Square Enix hasn’t so much as mentioned Kingdom Hearts 4 since 2022, at which point the established studio lifted the veil on a rather short trailer outlining several of the game’s major themes and, in some respects, the gameplay itself. Aside from that, though, Sora’s follow-up chapter has been somewhat dead in the water, which has of course raised some level of concern over the game’s potential launch window. And it’s because of this lack of content on the sequel’s development that the vast majority of its fan base has ultimately decided to revert back to speculative thinking.

Will Kingdom Hearts 4 Release in 2025?

According to various sources and “water cooler” talks, Kingdom Hearts 4 is currently targeting a rough 2026 release window on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Now, as for whether or not this is concrete enough to spark a discussion is another story, and something that, quite frankly, we’ve yet to lend an ear to. Even still, it seems as though the folks over at Square Enix could very well be aiming to shed light on the fourth installment at some point in 2025. Well, it’ll either be Kingdom Hearts 4 or another irrelevant mobile spin-off — the latter certainly being no stranger to the saga’s long and ridiculously complex timeline.
