Transformers: Reactivate Has Been Scrapped

Transformers Reactivate

Developer Splash Damage has made the unfortunate decision to cancel its upcoming online action game, Transformers: Reactivate. In light of this rather disappointing news, the studio has taken the time to thank associate Hasbro for their ongoing support,  stating that the company has been “an incredible and supportive partner throughout” the development process.

“Today, we have some very difficult news to share, the decision has been made to end development of Transformers: Reactivate,” the X post reads. “This means we will be scaling down to refocus our efforts on other projects. Unfortunately, despite every effort, a number of roles across the studio are now potentially at the risk of redundancy.”

“This decision did not come lightly, and it is a difficult time for the studio and our people,” the post continues. “We want to take a moment to thank the team who work on Transformers for their dedication and passion.”

To the Scrapyard

Transformers: Reactivate was first revealed during The Game Awards 2022, at which point developer Splash Damage showcased a relatively short trailer outlining several of the game’s core elements, most of which circled a squad of ragtag characters and a cyber-like setting. Since then, the project has been pretty much dead in the water, with little to zero updates on its website or developmental milestones. As for why Splash Damage has finally made the decision to take the online multiplayer game to the scrapyard is unclear, but from the sounds of the closing statement, the studio will be looking to crunch down on staff roles to “focus on other projects” outside of the ill-fated Transformers IP.

As for what will come next for the folks over at Splash Damage is another story. Chances are, though, we’ll be hearing more from them real soon. Just, eh, don’t expect Bumblebee to be making an appearance.
